Quote from Jerod Askew....

Y'all need to get off the afraid of competition thing. He's a teenager and thinking that he wants to play ball not sit on the bench. if i were him i'd pick the path of resistance too. We use the playing time excuse for qb's as to why they should come here. Well we are going to be STACKED on d-line in a year or two. Why should a DT want to come here with the commitments we have here. Don't bring Orgeron in to this either because we have lack of depth + David Reaves for QB coach and still have no top prospect.

DT's rotate, so even if you are third or fourth on the depth chart, chances are you will still see some playing time. Typically with a position like QB there is a starter and unless something major happens a backup will rarely see any quality playing time. Plus, with DL, there could be up to 4-5-6 guys on the field at once. There is only one QB.

It's a huge difference.

Well theres a huge difference in starting and being the second, third or fourth string tackle, which theres only two of.

It's not near as huge as being a second string QB, which was the original comparison you made. On any give team there is room for at least 4 or 5 DT's to get significant playing time. There is only room for one QB.

One key piece of information that's missing here is what the coaches think. I believe they had cooled on Hailes and never offered Sims. This rumor is completely meaningless if the coaches don't want either player.

Rivals shows Sims with an offer now!

This is false. Have a contact with Sims and Sims has stated this is totally false.

Where did the original quote from Askew come from? If this quote is indeed acurate, then you maybe are being used to cover up something.

It wouldnt be the first time a recruit has told a reporter something way off to disguise something.

However, I do believe Sims is solid to bama.

INCORRECT! Can you guys not READ BETWEEN THE LINES? Askew is saying that in a couple of months---(which happens to be when the football season is well underway)--That Tennessee will be doing really well and recruits will want to get on board. Geeze, how can yall not get that?:no::no::no::no:

I guarantee he probably doesn't know what he's talking about.

(PS - saying you guarantee something probably will or won't happen is a contradiction. the word guarantee means there is no probably about it.)

It was from the GVX article about Cobbs. It was on down the page.

Follow Jerod: Freshman linebacker Jerod Askew believes he can help UT sign some of his former teammates at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Va.

Quarterback Phillip Sims and defensive tackle Evan Hailes were both recruited by UT before they committed elsewhere.

Sims is committed to Alabama and Hailes to Penn State.

Still, Askew pointed out those commitments aren’t official until National Signing Day on Feb. 3.

“They’re really waiting for me to say how it is up here,” Askew said. “It’s great right now but you never know what will happen later on. Probably like two months from here I guarantee they’ll probably be up here.”

Cobbs likes what he sees at UT GoVolsXtra

Well the freshman isn't too articulate, but I GUARANTEE that as an actual player on the team he knows a hell of a lot more than you-----DONT.:birgits_giggle::birgits_giggle:

Bottom line is... still over 5 months until national signing day, and things can change. At this point last year we thought we had Nunes and we weren't even a twinkle in Bryce Brown's eye.

I would agree with the sentiment that if we are looking good this fall, some QB will fall in our lap. Sims? Who knows... but it sure would be nice to see the look on Saban and bammer faces if that did happen.

personall I dont think we can afford the payroll to take recruits from bammer, they pay too well, and I think that we spend our money elsewhere.
