This article is cited on the left side of the VN homepage for those interested, but I thought this deserved its own thread. I really feel like we've got a gem in Mr. Stokes, however long he does or doesn't stay. This says a lot about the drive and character that this young man displays:

"I realize I've got to get better," Stokes said. "I can't get complacent. Every game I have to go harder than my last game.

"I feel like this season was a blessing for me because it was definitely going down the drain [until] all of the sudden God opened up Tennessee for me and I was able to finish out this season. I hate that it ended early, but next year I think we'll be one of the top teams in the nation."

if stokes develops a long range jumper and starts being able to finish around the basket, i really feel he will be able to average 15 or 16 points a game. maymon could match his total and we would be getting 30 or 32 points just from them next year. i'm very impressed with the young man asnd really wish he could stay 4 years !!! GBO !!!

I agree and he will need to get better at free throws. He will go to the line a lot.

I really love his attitude and approach to the game. Its obvious he didn't get too caught up in the hype coming out of high school. I was disappointed with the lack of passion and intensity from the team against Mtsu. To me it really spoke volumes about stokes that he played with more passion and want that night than anyone else on the team. Aside from production, I really think he and Maymon will be the leaders next year. If they get their attitude to permeate through the team we could be extremely good imo. Whether he stays 4 years or more likely that he heads off to the nba asap, stokes gives his all for Tennessee and strives to give even more.

If we can find someone to get the ball inside, both Stokes and Maymom will be outstanding.

He can be a 20+ guy if he does what you said and is at least a 70% FT shooter.

Great recruit for the Vols, ft shooting and finishing at the rim are critical for him to elevate his game. Good attitude though.

Our guards need to be more worried about getting the ball to Stokes and Maymon next year. They should only shoot 3's after the ball goes inside and kicks back out.

Stokes is a good kid with a lot of potential, but he needs to work on his idioms as well as his game. The expression is "all of a sudden", not "all of the sudden".

I will concede, however, that he could have been misquoted. I don't have much faith in today's media, especially small-market media.

Stokes needs to work on his body movement on his FT attempts. I think that is why he is inconsistent right now. To be 6-8 and as strong as he is, his body moves around way too much on FTs. If he gets more compact with less movement he can shoot 70% + from the line. That is a step he has to take to get to the next level as a scorer.

I had a coach that used to tell me that practicing shooting a basketball is no different than a golf swing. Repetition is great, as long as the technique is proper. If its not, your better off working on something else.

He seems to have the attitude to want to get better, he just needs the direction.

And that's what you took from the article??..omg, just stop..Apparently the short bus is a great place to pick apart grammar..

BTW, where do they keep the "idiom" stats????

It's a lot easier to get the ball inside when you have proven to have an outside shooting game. Without that we will continue to see a collapsed zone making it more difficult.
