It's a lot easier to get the ball inside when you have proven to have an outside shooting game. Without that we will continue to see a collapsed zone making it more difficult.

Best post of the thread. And I'll ad, you either need to shoot your way out or be a better passing team. We suck at passing the ball. Our attack against the zone this year was made of having our posts stand on the blocks and our guards pass it around 40 ft from the basket.

I have no doubt in my mind that Stokes is going to up his game this offseason and get better. And when he does, UT will have one of the most feared post in the SEC. Stokes developing this offseason can really help Maymon. And wow our guards are going to have a fun time.

Many games it was frustrating watching Maymon and Stokes expend so much energy clearing out their man down low in order to receive a pass only to watch our perimeter players impassively work the ball back out and around to the other side. Tatum, Richardson, McRae, even McBee - no one distinguished themselves getting the ball inside. Golden probably did as well as could be expected from the top.

It wasn't a factor last preseason, but now we know what we've got down low. No doubt CCM will work the team hard wrt getting the ball inside to the Bruisers - early and often.

Your last paragraph is my thoughts exactly.

They didn't know maymon would be what he was, an had no clue stokes was coming. I think much of the offense was probably guard orientated and they had to tweak OT throughout the year.

As you said, I expect that to be an emphasis in the off season. DIFFERENT WAYS TO GET THE BALL INSIDE....through passing, driving, and dribbling/probing. Even practicing ways on how to effectively get the ball inside against a zone defense...

CCM now knows going into next year where their bread is buttered and I expect to see our post men get you touch after touch(if they dont I will worry in all honesty). I honestly think somewhere between 12-15 shots a game should be a minimum for stokes and maymon each.

Having McRae, Richardson, and McBee will do that to a team.

A point guard that can penetrate and dish would do wonders for this team next season. Golden is great at penetrating to the basket with one thought in mind, SHOOT. If he can develop a game where he also dishes the ball to Stokes and Maymon, he could double his assists next year. We need his scoring too, but not as much as we need him to get the ball inside.

What's sad is the 2 star recruit is about the only one that can change or tries to change angles on passes to the post. Noone undertands angles and how to get it down low in a way that leads to post to his move based off of where he has position.

As a post player, nothing was more annoying than posting up, and getting a pass in an area you didn't call for the ball.

Stokes and Maymon will be quite the duo next year. I also agree Stokes needs to work on his free throw shooting. Also his post defense could use some work as well, but it's pretty incredible what he did this year as a HS senior in college.

Sounds like Stokes has his head on his shoulders square. Really hope Martin can put a point guard tha can effectively pass the ball and a good shooter or two on the floor with Stokes and Maymon. If so, we could be very good next year.

as a pg, I already know where you want the ball and will get it to you on your hand and know when to get it to you.

if stokes develops a long range jumper and starts being able to finish around the basket, i really feel he will be able to average 15 or 16 points a game. maymon could match his total and we would be getting 30 or 32 points just from them next year. i'm very impressed with the young man asnd really wish he could stay 4 years !!! GBO !!!
Stokes needs to develop some moves down low, as well.
