I'm not putting Martin down, but why is he a 4 star with 90 tackles and 2 int. and Randolph is a 3 star with 1,300 rushing yards and 12 TDs with 125 tackles and 3 Ints. Do you think Randolph will be raised to a 4 star also?

randolph is on ajc's super 11 for the state of GA. they certainly have more than 11 4 stars every year within the state. but, not too worried about his star power, just want him to come in and do work for the Vols!

Randolph should be a four star in the end. He just made AJC Super 11, and the only reason he is rated lower is because he was injured last year. He is arguably the best safety in Georgia. I think he is a better prospect than Martin because he can play all DB positions, whereas I believe Martin is only a strong safety.

I say in the end Tennessee will have gotten a few under rated players. I don't want to jump the gun but Dooley and the other coaches may have a real eye for talent.

I wish Martin was a 2 or 3 star so he could actually amount to something, since none of the Rivals guys have seen him play or properly evaluated his ability. They heard from someone who knew someone that knows somebody that is cousins with his coach or camp coaches who said something about him. I hear he's a good looking prospect though. Lets hope! We need him. We need to keep recruiting 4 and 5 stars though from youtube, Rivals, and Scout like Larry Coker did at Miami. Boy he single handly tanked them because of that. Meat and potatos make the stew possible.

I agree but in the end when they start doing the top 10 list of top classes and if Tennessee isn't there they will be people ripping Dooley for not going after the big 4 or 5 star talent.

Anyone interested in creating a knew Recruiting site? Where we actually go evaluate talent with our eyes and knowledge of the game. How much do these recruiting sites generate? We are in the wrong business. We could have a football camp called "Star Gazers" every summer where we invite propects to camp. Have top coaches coaching them. Then send out units in territories to follow their progress for honest and real evaluations. The coaches would be the front line for opinions of what kids to continue to follow. 2 to 3 day camps.

Sounds good, just don't forget to have editors. :cool2:

I think Dooley is doing a good job recruiting given the circumstances ...

That being said ...

Stars are not always right ....but the TOP 5-10 teams based on those stars are almost always competing for championships . It is not absolute ...but is certainly a valid indicator. If you are not in those top 5-10 year in and year out ...it is just about a certainty are you are not in contention .

I cannot recall a team from outside the top 5-10 recruiting rankings unless you go back to the 90's Nebraska squads....but they test for roids now so it probably won't happen again

This is the best post I've seen.. I Love coach Dooley already but I also know we need some of the big names to win championships. Maybe this class is to fill depth issues IDK but the recruiting is picking up.. I've been 100% behind Dooley since day one supporting everything. I Love TENNESSEE football and I'm real passionate about the vols.. GO VOLS!!!

We have been a top 5-10 team pretty consistently since 2002 according to scout and rivals... Other notables: Michigan and Georgia. Of course, attrition plays a part in post recruiting ranking results. Virginia Tech, Oregon, and even Auburn have played well without consistently being in that group.

Or it's proof that QBs were trained to look to the other side of the field, a la QBs v. Eric Berry this year

When you have a couple years where you're anywhere from 30-50, though, you're in deep trouble.

Stats in HS to judge how good a player is are irrelevant. If a team is terrible but you have one good player you can be an average player and pump out tackle numbers like those. Not saying he is average.

Tell that to Boise, TCU, Iowa, West Virginia, Wisconsin and numerous others that have not had a highly rated (top 15) class in years yet are in the top 15 teams in the country right now.
