Tell that to Boise, TCU, Iowa, West Virginia, Wisconsin and numerous others that have not had a highly rated (top 15) class in years yet are in the top 15 teams in the country right now.

How many of those schools would have a legitimate shot to compete for a NC in a conference like the SEC?

Heck, most of them can barely compete for titles in their own conferences.

now breath...

I said the top 5 -10 ...USC , Texas , Florida , Alabama , Oklahoma , Ohio State ...these guys are usually in the Top 10 regardless of what site you use.

They are usually the top of the food chain in the post season . There are other teams in that list that pop in and out over the years ..but the ones that are there year in and year out are playing for championships.

I sure would tell that to that to Boise, TCU, Iowa, West Virginia, Wisconsin...they don't play in leagues where virtually every team is a top recruiting performer. These teams are 4-6 loss teams in the SEC.

Don't believe what I said ? Track it . Look at who finishes on top and their performance over time. There is an undeniable correllation between winning recruiting and winning football. If there wasn't coaches would not do it year round and find ways to cheat to compete.

Agree with the above. Success breeds success.

Agree to a certain extent, but player evaluation and development in today's arena are more valuable than ever. People seem to think without a top 10 class that you cannot compete with Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, etc., but I assure you that Oregon, Utah, Boise State disagree. They have coaches that know how to recruit for their systems and develop their players. Say what you will, but while Urban Meyer is a great recruiter and at good X's and O's coach, he is not in the top 10 in player development. Saban is probably the best "all-around" coach in the country right now in terms of having a balance of recruiting, X's and O's, and development.

Tennessee would be an annual Top 15 team too if they played in the WAC, Big East, or even Big 10.

Yep, I remember Wyoming.

Do you also remember that their coach of 15 years was canned before the game ??? I would guess that that upset and that milestone go hand in hand.

I think that when you look at some of these teams ...TCU , Boise State , Utah ect ect ...you have to say they are doing a wonderful job. Then reality sets in . It is alot easier to play 1-2 hard games a year ...and a bunch of creampuffs in between .

Take UT for example ...give them Florida early and Alabama late ...fill the rest with creampuffs. They will not have as many depth issues because they will not have to play their starters all the time they would under an SEC schedule. They can practice almost exclusively for their 2 hard games all season and all off season . Worst case record in this situation , UT is a 2 loss team .

That being said ...I was never talking about the 'fringe' teams . I am talking about the 6-7 that seem to always be in the championship hunt. They recruit well and it shows in their results on their 'star rankings' and the results on the field.

Coaches without recruits ? Lou Holtz , Steve Spurrier , Saban his first year at Bama , Fulmer when he fell of the recruiting radar ...all successful guys when they have the right horses ...not so much with average talent .

Auburn is a team that has been hot in recruiting as of late. Keep an eye on them if you want to see how the stars influence recruiting .
