Randolph Morris

After Morris wasn't drafted in 2006, he told everyone he would stay at UK through his senior season. He didn't, so I would say that would be screwing them over. Morris is a decent talent inside, so Kentucky is obviously going to suffer from his absence next season. How is that not screwing UK over? Get a clue.

Yea right they have Orbzut:rofl:

On second thought, no they won't he is a senior...

He went through the draft in 2005. And, IMO, he didn't screw UK over, because he didn't leave for NY until after Tubby left. Had Tubby stayed and Morris still gone pro, I'd be much more inclined to agree. I do, however, agree entirely that Kentucky will suffer from his absence. In fact, thanks for pointing that out. :) Next season should be fun.

Then every NCAA player that seems intent on being at a school 4 years screws the school when he leaves? By that logic, we should all be mad at Robert Meacham.

Kentucky recruits nationally, knocking on the doors of the best highschool talent in the country. The reason a lot of these McDonalds All-Americas come to Kentucky is for the chance to reach the level where they can become millionaires playing at the next level. That is a big factor in why they can step in and pluck a kid from Detroit or LA or Atlanta and land the big prospects. The fact that Morris made the step after three years instead of 4 isn't screwing anybody, it is part of the deal.

Do you think Tubby would have sent Randolf packing if, after discovering the magic fax, he had said he would like to return for two more seasons? Do you think he didn't see the possibility of his center's early exit when he recruited the McD AA out of highschool?

Morris didn't screw Kentucky any more than Rex Chapman or Ron Mercer or Antoine Walker or Kalena Azebuki or Rajon Rondo. He did what was best for him, which is presumably why he came to Kentucky in the first place.

.

I assume you mean "Meachem"? To compare the situation of Robert Meachem leaving to Randolph Morris is idiotic. Meachem never tried to leave Tennessee after a mediocre sophomore season, only to return to the field after serving a suspension for interaction with an agent. Meachem never promised the Vol faithful that he would stay through his senior year. No, that wasn't Robert Meachem-- that's the story of Randolph Morris. Nice try, though.

If you really believe that Randolf Morris did something wrong by choosing to finish this year making 1.6 million dollars while living the lifestyle of a professional athlete rather than sitting through Applied Sciences and Library Studies classes while his school searches the country in an effort to find him a new coach, I think you need to re-examine your groupings of clued and clueless.

I'd be much more inclined to think that Morris screwed UK if Tubby were still the coach.

I have a hard time understanding how Morris would have screwed UK under any circumstances. The school knew he was a candidate to leave early when they recruited him; they knew he was a candidate to leave early when he left early; they knew he was a candidate to leave early when they did everything they could to restore his eligibility.

Two years later, he left early. Where is the screwing?

Morris' career, amateur and NBA, was over until Tubby took him back and managed to get his eligibility restored. Tubby could have refused after Morris apparently blew him off when he decided to try the draft. Then again, UK desperately needed to get Morris back to be competitive, so I suppose I agree with you guys. Morris did tell Tubby that he would stay through his senior year though after he got reinstated.

Is that really one sentence?

Exactly.

I never had a warm-fuzzy feeling about Morris, to be honest. I'm thankful for everything he did for UK, but from the moment that he signed with UK (in which he said, "I'm going to the NBA, no just kidding. I'm signing with UK."), I always felt like he was just playing for himself, not the name on the jersey.

I wish him the best, but I won't remember him as fondly as the Tayshaun Princes or Kenny Walkers or Rex Chapmans.

Rex Chapman, who left school early, then called the UK fans a bunch of bigots because of all the flack he got for dating the sister of Mark Higgs. Yeah, I can see why you have fond memories of King Rex.

Chapman probably left after realizing that he would no longer be paid handsomely to play for UK.

Rex is deified in Kentucky because he represents, at least on the surface, what most UK fans want the program to be compised of--a homegrown kid who grew up dreaming of playing for the Cats (his racial persuasion probably didn't hurt one bit.) The facts that he left early, had a mediocre pro career, and made some disparaging remarks about the program are overlooked because he was a white kid from Owensboro who could jump out of the gym.
