how is your brother sly?

Doing better than expected. Moved from ICU yesterday and had a good day. They've removed some breathing tubes and some feeder tubes to make him a bit more comfortable. Supposed to start some form of liquid diet today. Doctors declared him cancer free post op. He still has about a 8-10 week plan for full recuperation.

i understand your feeling sly, to a lesser degree. my bro was 21 when he had his surgery and he feared beyond everything having to have a colostomy or them finding cancer when they got in there to remove his bowels. i'll never forget him waking up and barely able to talk he said "is there a bag" my daddy teared up and told him no, everything went perfectly and he grinned real big and gave my daddy a thumbs up and then went back under.....made me cry just thinking about it.

Cancer of what, Sly?

Esophagus. That's why he was on op table 9 hours. Op was scary enough, but he was on the table during all the storms going through Alabama and into Knoxville. Basics of what they did-One team made an incision at the throat/another team made an incision below the stomach. Team one goes in and snips the esophagus at the top/team two snips at the bottom below the stomach and above the small intestines. They pull every thing out/cut out the cancerous part of the esophagus. Then put it all back in, stretch it to fit, reattach top and bottom and close. Simple, eh?

My cousin went through something similar when she was about 20. She got the bag treatment. Fortunately for her, it was temporary. I can't imagine living like that, but many do. Of course, anything they do beats the alternative.

These were all taken within 20 miles of the house. Most are around Antelope Island. Antelope Island is in the Great Salt Lake. It's about 14 miles from the house and a great get-away peaceful place. There's a causeway that connects it to the mainland. The causeway is about 8-10 miles long. This is a pic leaving on the causeway and looking towards the area where I live.

This is on the island looking towards the Wasatch Mountains. Elevations are around 10-12000 feet for the mountains..
