Nice song about maybe love/happiness coming around for a second chance. You probably need to be 40+ or even 50+ to enjoy the melancholy of this one. As we are old farts, this is one of Our Songs.
Music by the amazing pianist and composer Marian McPartland, who played here in her 85th birthday tribute; lyrics by Johnny Mercer; sung by Karrin Allyson, who was sick and OT in best voice but turned up anyway.
Twilight world
Over the China sea
Sing me a melody
From ages ago
In a twilight world
Watching the sampans pass
I fill a frosty glass
As lanterns burn low
Life is a changing panorama
Love is a dancing butterfly
Catch them both while we may
Come to Spain or Cathay
I don’t want to miss that will o’ the wisp
Passing by
Life is holding out a twilight world
Don’t let it slip away
Come take it while we may
Make it begin
Let’s find our twilight world
Before the night sets in

No, she was a pianist (and composer.) That’s her playing piano, and Karrin Allyson with a vicious cold singing. She was 85 singing that?

Thank you for introducing me to her.No, she was a pianist (and composer.) That’s her playing piano, and Karrin Allyson with a vicious cold singing.
This is from a 2-volume tribute to her on her 85th birthday. She was in the early stages of Alzheimer’s dementia and passed away 5 or so years later. She had a great radio program on NPR for many years called “Piano Jazz” where she would invite another jazz talent as a guest and they would improvise through the hour. RIP.
Ha HaI got my hair cut last Tuesday, first time since early January 4 inches gone. I had told Hubs I’d be doing this, but he still got that weird Guy Thing where he was terrified to comment, including saying the nuclear “you look different.” I took pity on him Wednesday evening and asked what he thought. I’ve never seen anyone that relieved in my life for something other than a negative pregnancy test.

Hey have you heard Diane Schuur sing, she is a Great Jazz singer.........
Love her, and love Diana Krall (aka Mrs Elvis Costello) and Elaine Elias.
If I ever get to have a tiny sailboat, I will name it “O Barquinho” and sail around Lake Lure until I run out of wind and have to beg a tow. Here is Elaine Elias, another jazz pianist and vocalist:
