With the NCAA in mind I would say we are equal to Auburn.

I don't think Golden or Strong are good enough. There will be a lot unhappy fans if it's either of those two. Patterson is a realistic candidate. Hart should make him a huge priority and force him to turn down a lot of money to stay at TCU.

I'd gladly take Fedora from NC before either Golden or Strong. I listened to Fedora on YouTube for five minutes and he seemed to have a lot higher football IQ than Dooley ever did in the 3 years he was here.

Fedora would be a strong get. He has really turned the Heels around and have people around the program very excited. He was the mastermind of Urban Meyer's spread but may not win big immediately with Tennessee's current offensive personnel.

Pat Forde said on the Dan Patrick Show that The Arkansas job is the #1 job with UT the second best job due to recruiting becoming tougher for Tennessee. I'd have to agree and he is much more qualified than anyone posting on this board.

He changed his tune once he took his bias against TN out of it. (Kentucky homer).

It is obvious that Tennessee is far and away the best opportunity that is open right now.

If an Oregon or Texas comes open then my position changes.

1A- Arky
1B- UTenn
3- Auburn
4- Cal
5- NC State
6- Kentucky

There is literally nothing better about Arkansas than Tennessee.

Facilities - Tennessee
Stadium - Tennessee
Fan base size - Tennessee
In state talent - Tennessee
Tradition - Tennessee
NFL pipeline - Tennessee
Recruiting budget - Tennessee
Division Strength - Tennessee
Proximity to other talent - Tie (TN has NC, SC, GA very close...Ark has TX, Lou and Bama very close)
Boosters - Tie both have extrememly prominent boosters

I will give Arkansas that they have had some recent success which Tennessee hasn't so they have one plus.

The Auburn program is in bad shape right now (good article by K. Scarbinsky) with player discipline issues, not attending class or workouts, drugs, arrests, .... Plus, they have recruiting issues being investigated by the NCAA. Chizik won his fluke title with cam newton who was on campus a few months, and then took the program to rock bottom.

Think dear old Gabe Wright is still laughing about chossing Auburn over the Vols? We have at l;east cleared the investigation hurdle w/o getting bowl bans and TV bans. Not sure Auburn will be as fortunate.

Under the circumstances, I think UT is the best open coaching job. As has been stated previously, I think the pending Auburn NCAA sanctions and the short leash (i.e., outsized expectations) their coaches get will make Auburn less desirable than it should otherwise be. Heck, they have had two undefeated seasons in the last decade and dominated Alabama and UF for several years (though not recently). So, you would think it would get a lot of interest. Ultimately, I think Auburn ends up with Petrino because a) Petrino got fired for cause and is not getting a buy-out and he is probably itching to get another gig and b), with the looming sanctions and the outsized expectations, I doubt a big name, established coach is willing to take the risk of being the next coach. Thus, it would seem that Petrino would be the perfect candidate because he is a big name that needs a job and Auburn probably cannot attract an established coach from another school under the circumstances. I think Arkansas hires Malzahn because Malzahn's wife wants to be in Arkansas, Arkansas is a big step-up from Arkansas State, and Malzahn looks better and better following the implosion at Auburn. He is also a Petrino clone in that he is widely considered an offensive genius and Arkansas had a great deal of success with that type of coach. I think we (UT) end up with Strong or Golden even though I really, really want Gruden, Stoops, Fisher, Peterson, or Patterson.[/QUOTE]

IMO we pull Golden out of Miami, too.

Golden is a good young coach, but not what UT needs at this time. We need a proven, big-time coach that can get us back on track.

No he wouldn't. And all of your "facts" about him are incorrect.

Turned around UNC? He won one more game this year.

He was also at UF with RON ZOOK! Not UM.

He would be a major let letdown.

And please no Al Golden. 40-45 overall.

from what I read about Mark Stoops taking over UK after being at FSU the last 3 yrs as DC, he may actually DO WELL in UK after his first season...normally every new coach will take their lumps the first yr or two to get the kinks out and recruiting established, and if Stoops can do that for UK, they might actually be something again in the SEC East in a few years...but guess we wait and see how year 1 goes down...
