Not seen this post this year, so I started it.

1. Urban Meyer
2. Nick Saban
3. Tommy Tuberville
4. Steve Spurrier
5. Philip Fulmer
6. Mark Richt
7. Les Miles
8. Houston Nutt
9. Bobby Petrino
10. Sylvester Croom
11. Rich Brooks
12. Bobby Johnson

5-8 is a mish mash for me. Lack of a title prevents me from putting Nutt higher than Miles although I can see viewing him as a better coach than Miles.

Richt no. 3? No thanks. That guy has been pounded 2 years straight by Fulmer. Not a good sign.

it happens.

the guy recruits well, has won some SECs and gets done what he needs to.

He needs some better D coordinator help and he's on his way. By the way, his sorry squad is preseason 1 or 2 in a lot of polls, even with a deadly schedule.

Preseason rank is just that, preseason. He is not that far removed from losing 5 straight SEC East games.

fair enough. It was an opinion poll and I gave mine. There isn't anyone below him on that list that I would prefer to have coaching my team. It's that simple.

That is cool, was just stoking the debate. Surprised you would reference Meyer a "everyone else" and put Richt above him.

Miles @ #7 is in my opinion too high. Last year he was flat out coached by Brooks and Phillips. Maybe it was a fluke but I don't think so.

The ESPN poll had him at like 3 or 4 I think. Welcome to the board and nice avatar.

I honestly think he's a solid coach, but he's a system guy and his lack of defensive focus has seen his Gators underachieve for a couple of seasons. I respect that he won a title at UF and went to the BCS with Utah, but he won with Zook's guys and in what I considered a down year in the AA, similar to last year.

Miles was outcoached by Meyer and Fulmer last year too. He's a very mediocre coach who has benefitted from talent he neither recruited nor coached up.

It should get interesting now that Saban's recruits and coordinators are gone.

Spurrier
Saban
Tuberville

I would put Fulmer around #5 or #6.

Tuberville wins without big time recruits. Meyer is overrated. Richt is just ahead of Fulmer. Croom and Johnson aren't far behind.

I started a thread with a link that let's fans rank the coaches if anyone is interested. Didn't want it to get buried in this thread.

Allvol, thank you. I'm glad to be here!! My son is a freshman @ UTK therefore I am now officially a VOL fan!
:good!:

And you guys are right, Miles was out coached by Meyer and Fulmer as well.

"Medicore" coaches don't piece three 11 win seasons in a row in the SEC pal. Furthermore, saying he didn't "Coach 'em up" is way off cause the kids Saban recruited off of last year's team didn't play a down for him.

Now, I think Miles' gameday coaching leaves some questions but to say anything less than him being a very solid coach is a stretch.

He's recruited classes with higher star ratings per player than Saban and this year's class will in all likelihood the THE strongest class ever at LSU.

I tend to agree with sjt18, Miles is average at best. Put that level of talent in the hands of Meyer, Spurrier, Fulmer or even Brooks and we would have run the table last year. Of course this is just my opinion but a number of LSU folks living out here feel the same way.

LSU should have run the table.......

His playcalling was stubborn in the UK game. His determination to run the ball cost him.

I don't know that he was outcoached by Fulmer. In fact, I would say that throwing a green QB into an SEC championship game put him at a severe disadvantage.
