Rank the SEC coaches

There was no reason on earth that LSU should have lost last year except Miles' poor coaching. LSU should have lost against UF too... He got away with a series of risks that would have burned him about 99% of the time. There was an internet rumor that some of the players said they were going to win a NC in spite of Miles being an idiot.

I don't have any particular angst against LSU... in fact, since I despise UF and UT has been so poor against them of late... I've learned to enjoy the way you all beat them.

I just saw Miles at OSU and was flabberghasted when LSU hired him. If you aren't careful, it will get by you before you realize what happened.

I think we were all flabberghasted!! Of course we are winning now but I do not believe that Miles will be able to sustain it. I'm afraid that in the not so far off future we will drift into mediocrity, or worse!! Right now Miles is living off talent and nothing more. With one or two average recruiting classes I think his true coaching colors will shine through.

Lexvol, I agree completely. His stubborn play calling in the UK game cost him. I think we will see more of this stubborness in the future as well.

all i know is MIles got beat at home by the worst TN team in 20 years. and i'm pretty sure Fulmer out coached him that night.

anyway......Richt....the shine has worn off. he as the same amount of SEC titles as CPF, no NT, and we've owned them of late. they beat FL with LESS regularity than we do, and they lost to KY and VAndy in the same season. Pre season #1 not withstanding, i'd say at the very least CMR and CPF are pretty close in any ranking put forth.

in a short 3 years, i'd have to put Meyer at the top right now, simply because he's done what you're supposed to do at FL......beat FSU, TN and GA regularly, he won the conf. and a NT. and he did it quickly.

after that, i'll go Spurrier. he's still one of hte best Offensive coaches in the game. He just doesn't have the players he was accustomed to in gainesville.

Tubberville would be three in my mind. they do great in the big games and on the road. the only reason he's not higher in my mind is the will throw the clunker, aka South Florida, Georgia Tech etc..., in there every now and then that leaves you scratching your head.

Saban would be 4th, Flumer/Richt, Richt/Fulmer at 5/6......Miles 7, croom 8, nutt 9, brooks 10, johnson 11, petrino 12--he's coached exactly 0 sec games. you have earn it here.

it's a pretty darn good collection of coaches in this league......regardless of where you have 'em in your top 12.

CUM and Miles have had the luxury of great players. They are both good coaches, but great is a stretch. A great coach would have realized that their team was winning by 30 and would have stopped calling his heisman qb's number. And in Miles instance he would have realized much sooner that Perriloux (sp) was a problem and would have had a back up plan.

Show me a great coach who won without talent. Hell, show me a good one for that matter.

He wasn't the Heisman winner at the time...maybe he was letting him pad his numbers. Though I agree with him needing to come out at that point, hardly a means for defining "Greatness" imo.

And in Miles instance he would have realized much sooner that Perriloux (sp) was a problem and would have had a back up plan.
He does, J. Lee was highly recruited. He was the #2 QB out of Texas behind Mallet. As hyped as he was during recruitment Hatch currently has the starting job so sounds like he's planned well, no?

I hate excuses but in that case fatigue was a factor. The players had Apache helos flying over the practice field all week, many with a lot of family members living with them in crowed conditions and others didn't know where family members were. Still, we lost but jus sayin.

Wouldn't that show he has a feel for the game and knows when to go for it. He did have the highest percentage of conversions on fourth down in all of CFB. Just sumpin to think about.

I tend to agree with sjt18, Miles is average at best. Put that level of talent in the hands of Meyer, Spurrier, Fulmer or even Brooks and we would have run the table last year. Of course this is just my opinion but a number of LSU folks living out here feel the same way.
You know, I was VERY disappointed when we hired him...still skeptical after the Miami win in the Peach, after Florida and Auburn losses the next year very concerned but it's getting hard to argue with his success and his accomplishments.

I have friends who still have reservations about him too though. I'm cautiously optimistic now. For one thing, he's proven to be one helluva recruiter and a great representative of LSU in terms of class BUT dayum, when there is a camera in his face he's a sound bite waiting to happen.

I said "big-time" not pretty good. You made my point for me.

far be it for me to even be able to comprehend what they all had to go thru that week..........but strictly related to football......you guys were killing us......we were imploding.

the clock management by miles at the end of the 1st half had nothing to do with fatigue.

we were ripe for a beating, and could have put us away.......miles blundered the end of hte 1st half and let Rik Clausen beat him in the 2nd.

I see a current day UT situation in your near future BC.

As much as I hate to admit it, I see it too. While I do believe we will continue to win, I do not believe that there will be anymore National titles as long as Miles is at the helm. In fact, I believe it will years before we win another SEC title!!

Winning with mediocrity....Tubby Smith did it to the Kentucky BB program, CPF is currently doing it yours, ours will be next. I firmly believe this!

I feel that I cannot fairly rank Lane or whoever Mississippi State hires until they next season is over. But for now, Kiffin #1

I don't know where Lane should go... but Houston Nutt and Bobby Petrino definitely deserve to be ahead of these two. Best not to even try ranking Kiffin at this point.

You just knew he was a total idiot when we beat them down there on Monday night down 21-0 at the half. Them trying to get a FG in the last seconds of the half to go up 24-0 and failing to get the team out there in time was a sign of horrible coaching.
