What amazes me is that there seems to be just as much "fear" of SC as UGA. I just don't get it.
Have you noticed the record of the current South Carolina Head Coach against our head coach?

Just like last year, everyone is underestimating Georgia.

Last year, UGA was ready to unleash Shockley. This year...Joe Tereshinski III (sp?.) I think UGA will be going through their first full force rebuilding year of the Richt Era.

Losing Pope is also going to hurt that offense a lot...he was one of those rare TEs that is not only a great blocker but also a great route runner and receiver.

Granted, they will be deep at the RB position, but with no real passing or receiving threats, their offense could be rather stale this year.

I interrupt this thread for a very important announcement. Now, I may be giving away too much on my own age, and this may get buried off in some other posting area, but I am so excited I have to mention it! There is a rumor that Steely Dan will go on tour this summer, playing with Michael McDonald. A tentative date for July 7 in Nashville. Now, I figure at least a few folks on here have to be of my generation and realize what a huge deal this is for classic rock and jazz lovers. So, at the risk of being berated, I am going to slip this in to a thread or two.

2. Florida
3. Tennessee
3. South Carolina
4. Kentucky
5. Vanderbilt

I'm almost certain UT will be in the top 6. But seriously, I think we will easily handle UK and a Cutler-less Vandy. Also, I feel like we've learned from our mistakes last year and won't give up another easy one to SC and Spurrier. Florida got a lot better toward the end of last year, and they will be tough for us. UGA should be worse without a proven QB, but that didn't stop David Greene from beating us when we were loaded in 2001. Not to mention the dawgs have Thomas Brown, who will be awesome, and to back him up Lumpkin and Ware. I'd say we'll beat the bottom three SEC teams and hopefully split Florida and Georgia. Go Vols.

Now wouldn't that be something! :D

Seriously, I think that there will be a 3-way fight for 3rd place between the Vols, Cocks, and yes, the Cats.

Except for Upton SInclair. He is a vegitarian nut job.

His quote is accurate......... :birgits_giggle:

The real question is, who will pose the greatest threat to Auburn and LSU?

pre season:
UF
UGA
TN
USC
KY
vandy

06 final
UF (schedule not withstanding, i think they beat UGA and TN)
UT (we beat UGA, but lose to UF and LSU)
UGA(lose to TN and UF)
USC(i hope they suck)
KY(who cares)
Vandy(does it really matter? no cutler, no big wins)

If UGA is underestimated then Richt needs to be placed at the left hand of the Father. They have NO depth this year. Not a single QB has shown leadership and command. Joey T is the front runner and he looks awful. Their defense has more holes than a Cheney hunting partner. One injury to a major position on either the D or O can set them back tremendously. I can never count Richt's abilities out but he's lacking some depth and experience all across the board. If we have long arms and vertical movement on D then expect a lot of interceptions in the UT-UGA game.

Someone the other day asked me what the news was coming out of spring practice down in Gainesville. Found the below today. Good news for the Gators on offensive line and the receivers and sounds like the defense is ready to go, but would like to hear better things about the running backs.

Although the defense got the best of Monday's Gator football practice, UF coach Urban Meyer said he remains optimistic about the future of his offensive line.

"They know the system," Meyer said. "The only thing they lack is experience."

Meyer said the Gators need to add depth behind starters Phil Trautwein (left tackle), left guard Simon Codrington, center Steve Rissler, right guard Ronnie Wilson and right tackle Drew Miller.

The spring has been a slight learning experience for Miller, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound junior who spent last season playing both guard spots.

"Right now, I am getting used to moving with balance and power out of a two-point stance," Miller said. "At guard you come out of a three-point stance."

Versatility has never been a problem for Miller. While at Sarasota Riverview, Miller started at center as a sophomore, guard as a junior and tackle as a senior.

"So far, so good (this spring)," Miller said. "Each day I feel like I'm getting better."

Extra points
Defensive tackle Marcus Thomas has been limited by a hernia problem that Meyer said is expected to require surgery. Meyer said Thomas likely will go through one more practice this spring before being shut down. Thomas is expected to be ready to play by the start of fall practice. ... Meyer said the team is hoping a cornerback or two steps up this spring to provide depth. He said only starters Reggie Lewis and Avery Atkins, as well as safety/corner Reggie Nelson, are the only healthy athletes ready to play right now. Meyer did add that sophomore corner Lamont Sheppard has shown improvement. ... Meyer reiterated after practice that he remains disappointed in the progress of his running backs. ... Meyer said Billy Latsko and Dallas Baker are two of the players who have provided needed leadership this spring following the graduations of Vernell Brown, Jarvis Herring, Jeremy Mincey and Todd McCullough. Meyer added that the Gators have excellent chemistry. "Our coaches feel much better than they ever have about the team." ... McCullough and Mike Nattiel were two of the former Gators in attendance at Monday's practice. Coaches from Jacksonville University also watched drills. ... Darryon Robinson, a former linebacker at Eastside High School, is working with the second team and put a nice hit on running back Anthony Gay during drills. Robinson began his college career at Bethel College in Tennessee, leading the team in tackles as a freshman, before transferring to UF where he walked on before last season and saw most of his snaps on special teams. ... Quote of the day: "(Tight end) Cornelius Ingram is doing a heckuva job," Meyer said. "He's the best receiver on the Gator football team."

An outside source on Meyer and Gators spring ball, coach had a dazed look in his eyes as he left the practice field, and his eyes were just getting going. But first came that distant stare, as if he'd just booked passage on a slow boat up the Green River but Utah was a million miles away.

The man seemed lost, as overwhelmed as his offense. It was the look of someone frightfully close to realizing that, at least for now, he's in over his head.

First, he talked about how Chris Leak and the offensive line was very good, like Auburn, LSU and Tennessee, and how the SEC was a "tough conference." He mentioned the great stadium environment, some great Florida defense and …

"And our punter did an excellent job," Meyer said. "I'm not sure what our net was … I think it was a 43 net."

There's just no clear concept on offense. None.

Will these guys ever get it?

Is there anything to get?

"Blitzed every time," Meyer said.

And covered our receivers one-on-one.

"You're really not supposed to be able to do that," Meyer said.

And you can't -- in the Mountain West.

Want a mountain?

This is a mountain.

Chris Leak on the lack of a running game, "you don't need a stat sheet on this one," Leak said. You only need have followed the tracks of Florida's tears. Meyer consoled Leak.

"Chris is a tough nut," Meyer said. "I just gave him a big hug. He's bawling his eyes out like some of those other guys."

"I don't like getting hit and the thought of having to pass 90% of the time is hard to take," Leak said.

Very creative.

And if it makes you feel better about what happened to UT last year -- or about what you fear is going to happen to them this year -- then fantasize away. Hey man, whatever gets you through the night.

I hear that Fulmer put a new play in just for 3rd and 5 or more. Its called "Intentional Interception." Your QB drops back and heaves it into the fullest coverage he can find at least 20 yards downfield, the theory being that it is better to throw a pick 20 yards from the line of scrimmage on third down than have the punter call an audible for a fake on fourth and give up an extra 10 yards.
(Oh boy, I'd better duck for posting this one!!)

I am not all that familiar with that offense but don't the running backs play a major role in that syste?

Secondary sounds a little suspect if anyone goes down.

It was meant to be funny, you are a Gator fan posting on a Tennessee forum, I can do one for Tennessee if it would make you feel better? :dunno: :whistling:

Why would I fear about something as trivial as a college football team?
