I hate to say it, but if you posted this topic on any other team's message boards, I doubt Neyland's name shows up very often.

Why are there Cal Bear fans and Oregon fans and Florida fans in the VN forums? Do they not have their own forums? What's the point?

because VN is better than their forums and we welcome most non-trolls from other teams (there are exceptions but freak won't let us get rid of them)

maybe because it's interesting and informative to find out what other people outside your bubble are thinking?

There are a few bubble breakers who patrol here. Maybe that is one of the secrets to success.

I wonder how many times Neyland will be listed ahead of Bryant...Just because Neyland beat Bryant when he was at UK doesn't make Neyland the better head coach.

"People think I'm the greatest damn coach in the world," said the great Bear Bryant, "but Neyland taught me everything I know."

Sounds like Bear disagreed with you...

If you want to rate Bear ahead based on having a much longer career, you have a good case. But if you're talking about who was really better, I'll take Paul Bryant's word for it.

I don't think having Schnellenberger high on the all-time list is a stretch at all. He was a great recruiter and great coach who built not one, but three (Miami, Louisville, Florida Atlantic) programs basically from scratch.

I'd also throw Larry Kehres into the mix as well. A win percentage of over .900 in D-3, a ton of conference and national championships, a ton of records, and most of his losses were in the first two years at Mount Union.
