Ranked Above Tennessee (RAT) Football Games to watch/monitor/comment on:

1st weekend with a bunch of rope-a-dope games so needle not going to move much for anybody but for the L from the FSU/LSU game. So far, I haven't been in awe of any of the T10 team games so far. Virginia probably would have beaten all the SEC opponents with the exception of Utah & NC

wait, Wait, WAIT, WAIT!

What is this you don't have TV.

Confession: Neither do I but I can pretty much (99.999-100%) watch any sporting event. So what's the deal? I'm a GT nerd. I live with 3 other Tech geeks at GT - what can we do to solve this.

You have laptop or desktop computer, but can't see the sports you want? I literally think we can change that if you have even halfway decent internet connection. It doesn't even need to be a great connection and we (us nerds) should be able to finagle you all the UT football games plus a bunch (every) other sport. at a minimum, I can send you a link ANDDDD we can experiment right now. Oh, and it won't cost you anything?

Are you up for it?

Heck, I and other volnation people could just send links to thing we're watching that cost us nothing. Costing nothing almost a requirement amongst GT nerds even if we could afford to pay and watch.
Very thoughtful of you! I'll check that link next Saturday.

Giving up TV was purely by choice. After my wife died, I lost the enjoyment of all sports, I guess because that was something we'd enjoyed together. Same with the few TV shows we watched. So saving the cost of cable each month was an easy decision.

Back when I was a kid, each season only 1 or 2 Tennessee games would be televised (plus a bowl game, if we made one). So listening to the Vols (all sports) on radio takes me back to more innocent, carefree days. I can also work on projects around the apt while listening.

But I love the Xs & Os of football, so I look for video recordings online afterwards, which better lends itself to analysis since you can pause and replay. I feel like I'm getting the best of both worlds.

I do keep a (dumb) TV around to play classic movies that I own. Don't know why that shared pleasure survived, but it did (and, yes, I analyze them, too).

Sometimes I follow the baseVols solely on the Volnation game thread. It's a unique experience (not efficient, or necessarily clear, but suspense-filled and mind-stretching because you're following the game by others' reactions, and posters are watching via different media, so the time delays vary), and you well know what a wonderful family of fans and characters inhabit that forum!

Along those lines, as a Braves fan, I've listened to more Braves games on the radio than I have seen them play on TV or at home games. I don't live that far away from the new stadium or the former stadium for that matter (abt 45 min for both). My point, watching sports is always good, internet sites and radio go a long way too.

This weekend many, many fans are upset with the Disney and ESPN vs Spectrum contract dispute and I think AND HOPE millions of people ditch Spectrum, ditch ABC and Disney and cut cable in general because there are other ways to view or enjoy sports without getting caught up in contract disputes.

Yeah, my mom has Spectrum, as do most folks in this part of Tennessee. I may start a thread* to follow developments, if there isn't one already.

If they mess with her NBA Package there's gonna be 90-year old fireworks!

So all that's left this weekend that could improve Tennessee's ranking are
(5)LSU vs (8)FSU tonight at 6:30 EDT and
(9)Clemson vs Duke at 7:00 EDT Monday evening.

(5)LSU vs (8)FSU
(9)Clemson vs Duke

The space is there in the Top 10 to be filled, but did we do anything special (compared to other teams) to warrant moving up?

The games to watch today that might open up a spot above us (in chronological kickoff order):

Ball State at #1 Georgia - SEC Network, noon
Delaware at #7 Penn State - Peacock, noon
Youngstown State at #4 Ohio State - Big Ten, noon
UNLV at #2 Michigan - CBS, 3:30 p.m.
Tulsa at #8 Washington - Pac-12, 5 p.m.
* #10 Texas at #3 Alabama - ESPN, 7 p.m.
So. Mississippi at #5 Florida State - ACC, 8:30 p.m.
Stanford at #6 USC - Fox, 10:30 p.m.

* This game won't move us, either way. But if Texas wins and the score is close, Texas would move above us and Bama might not drop below us. So I'll do my once a decade pulling for Bama--for the polls, and to put arrogant Texas fans in their place before officially entering the SEC. Just a matter of principle. I may not like cats, but if there's an incursion of rats... have at 'em, Tabby.

Given the networks access situation, more of VolNation will be depending on other VFLs for insightful game updates.

So let’s speculate whether Bama falls down to where Tennessee is. I think not.
