Nico is the most talented QB coach JH has ever had, and look what he's done with all the others.
Hooker shocked the nation because Josh Heupel was he coach. Nico will do even more.

Lotsa people just keep worrying about the RB situation. RB is the easiest position on offense for rookies to come in and produce immediately. Last year was simply plug and play and I fully expect this you to be the same. This offense just leaves spaces for RBs and often has the numbers. The unproven backs will do well IMO.
Now, to be fair, pass protections are the only real concerns in the group. Then the ability to catch passes.

Exactly. The talent they have behind Seldon is inexperienced.
I was encouraged that the staff believes the room is solid by the lack of SIGNIFICANT portal activity. Keith projects to be a tough yard and grind it out guy, Bishop the potential to be a local boy does good story IF IF IF his instinctual skill sets that produced in HS translate to this level. Enough speed? TBD. Both tougher runners than the speed guys. I like the mix. Lewis excites me but need to see it.

They will need both Rbs until Seldon is 100%. Heup has always leaned on 2 backs to share the ball and I just don't see who that is yet. In the spring game, I thought they both struggled to get any meaningful yards. Its hard to tell exactly what they can do from just those few snaps. Part of that was the fault of the DL having their way with the makeshift OL that was on the field. I am hopeful the young OL got better because they will need them too, but they were not making many open running lanes. It will be interesting to see how the starters play when/if they get healthy.

Im also concerned that
Lewis will not be ready to contribute because he has missed so many reps while recovering from surgery. Pass blocking in this system seems to be the key to contributing and who knows what he will do in a game. That’s been everyone’s problem in the past as far as staying on the field as an underclassman.

Interesting take, how so?
With the kind of talent we had there were still bad lapses. Giving up 41 pts in a half one year then 35 in a half the next year against Florida. Being up 8 at Bama with a minute to go and allowing them to go the length of the field to tie the game. Losing to Memphis. Getting blown out at Florida Manning's senior year.

Sounds like a Bama fan that expects perfection every game. Most men are judged by what they accomplish, not what they didn't. That doesn't seem to be a popular observance in this forum.

Whatever. The guy asked a question and I answered. I suppose it was easy for you to take it out of context. Still, a little overdramatic in your part

I like bishop as a prospect I think he will surprise ppl over 10k in 5A/6A ball in Tennessee he has some talent there and impressed coaches in the spring… depending on Cam’s health he could get most of the rb2 carries and I like the way he runs.

I love the way seldon runs too. He gets downhill quick, esp in the open field. I dont like him having surgery and not being 100% to start the season. One wrong hit and he could be done again. Id be more encouraged if he was already cleared.

Bishop has gotten some praise but has almost zero experience. Same with Keith.

I still choose to believe the staff evaluations of these two was higher than any portal guy that was willing to come into the entire room even with the speculative health issues. Would have at least seen evidence of dancing in the portal if not. Where are they now after a season with the playbook, practice, and the strength and speed work? Not going to Kreskin those answers. I will play the fan HOPE card and roll my eyes at the fan anti-hope posts.

I think we averaged 46 ppg in 2022, with Hendon in command of the offense.

I think Nico is going to out-perform Hendon. Yes, this year.

Watch out, this is gonna be a hugely fun ride this year. With signs that it could continue for many years to come.

Go Vols!
I expect we will struggle with expectations a bit against NC State, but should leave with the win. OU should be a shootout. Jackson Arnold will be looking to outduel Nico and with the home field advantage, it will tilt in his favor. If Nico shows he can keep his cool in that environment and silence the crowd the sky is the limit for us imo.

Outperform Hendon? I doubt it. HH came to us with a wealth of experience, almost an instinct for running at the right time, and throwing accuracy that drew praise even from ole Nick. To the point Saban said HH was extremely accurate. Nico, is as yet a baby, and especially regarding he has yet to against SEC defenses. I too, want him to utterly terrify the opposition, but some of you aren't realistic. Concerning SEC play, he's still using a pacifier until he proves, I said, proves, he can eat a baked potato, let alone chew on steak.

I see similarities of early 90's, and what is happening now.

Fulmer took over, we started winning a few games that we would normally lose, started recruiting better, and outcoaching other teams on Saturdays, and evident we were outcoaching in the offseason as well.

Then we started distancing ourselves from the bottom of the conference, got a good running game rolling, and clutch passing game, then scored Peyton Manning in recruiting, which set recruiting off, and led to back to back SEC championships and a National Championship.

Now we saw Heup step in, has won some games we are not used to winning, made some separation with the lower of the pack, running game AND passing is fantastic in that we had the #1 offense in 22. He obviously is outcoaching folks on Saturdays, and scored not only a 5 star NICO, but also got 5 star McIntyre coming in December, and has a crystal ball on a 2026 5 star Brandon (I think) from North Carolina.

And now we got a 12/14 team playoff on the horizon, and a transfer portal and NIL with good financial support... the timing is good for us to have this spark and some momentum. Go Vols.
Kind of weird how similar the trajectory is now that you pointed it out. Peyton took over at QB in the 94 season and Nico is taking over exactly 30 years later. Doubt we get Nico for a full 4 years but excited for the 2-3 he will be playing as the full time starter.
