RB depth chart

Lane runs north/south pretty well. He's not exactly a smash mouth RB, but he does typically seem to fall forward. He's shifty enough to get extra yardage without dancing and going backwards. I think if the pass game is consistent enough to open some holes in @ the second level, we'll see Lane rush for 1,000 yards in 2014. Not sure who the back up will be, but there's virtually zero chance (barring any injuries) of Hurd starting over Lane. Said this before and I'll say it again - if you have never played football or worked out in both your teenage and adult life, there is a huge physical difference between an 18 year old and a 21-22 year old.

HUGE- how do you explain when an 18 year old name Derick Henry shows up on campus measuring 6'3'' and 238lbs?

Here’s how I see it panning out (barring injury)

Marlin Lane
Jalen Hurd
Derrell Scott
Alden Hill
Justus Pickett
Treyvon Paulk (RS)

Paulk could redshirt if he doesn’t break into the top 3 backs. No sense wasting a season of eligibility to play garbage time down.

I don’t think Pickett adds anything other than depth. Not with the talent they just recruited. If Devrin Young is still with the RBs after the spring, either the RBs have serious problems, or Coach Azzanni just hates Young for some reason.

And GOD FORBID we get such good players that Alden Hill can’t get on the field (at RB). Over at Alabama they lost Alvin Kamara because he couldn’t sniff the field. There’s absolutely no slight to Hill that he can’t get in there. He just got recruited over. That’s what happens at big-time colleges.

There is much more to football than such measurables. There is much more to strength than such measurables as well. I weigh roughly the same (approx 208lbs) now at age 27 as I did when I was 21, but I am light years stronger now than I was then. The difference is MEN vs BOYS. There are obviously exceptions but they are not the norm.

Just want to get back to the days of our running backs taking hand off hitting the hole and then having the speed to go the house.

McRae, Davis, Myslinski etc... Making Tony Thompson All Sec... Those were the days!

I would expect Lane to start with some combination of 2 of the 3 true freshman to spell him. We can only hope that 1 of the 3 freshman end up being "THE MAN" and surplanting by seasons end.

There seems to be a lot of talk about Hurd, Paulk, or Scott coming in and being the back up to Lane. But how does Justus Pickett factor in? He was a transfer from Maryland, I believe he is a RS Junior this year. From what I remember, he is pretty quick but on the smaller side.

The best should start!

Agree. I will be surprised if Pickett doesn't contribute based on some of the comments about him.

Lane runs sort of like A Foster did at UT. He isn't shifty but seldom takes a direct hit. He kind of glides.

Derrick Henry was a beast against the Sooners, I bet he'll be even better this year. He's still only 18 years of age.

and he is one of the exceptions. plus he didnt start, so his body didnt have to take the beating that a starter would.
