RB for 24 class

Who does? I have no doubt that many of them love UT but that's not the only consideration for any.

I think it would be unfair to read some disloyalty into Wright because he considered the portal. He did stay after all.
the point wasn't that he was disloyal somehow, just pointing out the cards don't point to him looking to stick around. Especially when you have the NFL calling you as a RB with a short shelf life

Personally, I think that both Wright and Small would each have to have absolutely monster seasons this year in order to jump to the NFL. The way that we'll be splitting carries amongst several running backs (at a minimum), I just don't see either one having that type of season. I don't see any chance that both of them leave for the NFL after this season, and I think even one of them leaving is a long shot. Also, both of these guys have a ton of tread left on their tires since they've been splitting carries with so many guys their entire careers, so the "short shelf life" argument doesn't really come strongly into play either.

I get that but the RB draft is usually pretty crowded. He would need to have an incredible season to get that good of a projection.

Then why is he having contact if we have no shot?
There is always a shot... and this is just one more of those things that we don't know.

But your logic is sound (for a change ;)). It would be different if the staff were chasing him but he appears to be the initiator.

If you're a running back with any shot of getting to the league, you take it as early as possible. The average time in the league for a RB is the shortest of any position, and you have to make it to the second contract to get paid the big bucks. 1 extra year earlier in the league is huge.

Sampson earned the starting RB job next year by having a solid freshman campaign last year (without playing a single down yet this year)? You can't be serious.
No, he earned it by showing he has what it takes last year, busting his ass and waiting his turn while playing behind Small and Wright (something that is lost in todays college football landscape). At this moment, he has earned every opportunity to be RB1 next year (if Wright comes back it’s a different conversation) over 2 2023 Freshman that haven’t played a down of college ball, 1 2024 Freshman that wouldn’t have played a down to that point either. So yes, I am serious.

That’s 100% BS. You don’t earn a starting job two years in the future by having a good freshman campaign as the #3 RB. You have to back that up with a solid sophomore year. For all we know, he could get passed on the depth chart by the end of this season.

What part of at this moment don’t you understand? Try to keep up

What part of this don’t you understand? He hasn’t earned a starting job NEXT YEAR at this moment. He hasn’t even earned a starting job this year at this moment. You’re dense.

Nah, but to you those that have different opinions than you are “dense”. Just because you don’t understand what they’re saying. Out of Sampson, Keith, Bishop, seldon, and Lewis who is the only one that has earned the opportunity to be looked at for RB1 in 2024 at this moment. The only one that has played a college snap. I gave my opinion, you don’t agree, it’s fine. It’s possible he gets passed up, but it’s equally possible he progresses on the depth chart.

None of them, including Sampson. No player earns the starting job in 2024 by being a good #3 option in 2022.
