2 weeks ago, UGAly made a critical adjustment at halftime and spied Cook the entire 2nd half, and it stopped a lot of their Qb scrambles. Banks did not, for some reason, and Cook took advantage of it. Schrader being wide open in the flat the entire game was a direct result of the zone scheme and there was zero adjustment at halftime to stop that. It's maddening to watch opposing teams convert on 3rd a long over and over again. Banks' achilles heel has been 3rd and long since he got here.
While I agree we should have spied him Banks hands were tied. If he spied with Beasley that meant Herring had to cover a receiver or their RB and he proved he wasn't capable of that.

And I am not blaming Herring after finding out Carter is out for the season. Herring needs to be playing with his hand in the dirt but due to injuries he has been forced to play out of position.

Elijah Herring has been playing MLB since he got to UT. Maybe you're thinking about his brother Caleb Herring? He is a DE/OLB.

I am still trying to figure out how zero adjustments were made. I said it in another thread that our DL was actually too aggressive and showed little gap discipline. Which lead the RB straight to a slow reacting/slow speed LB in Herring. Honestly great job to MO on exposing a major weakness. If your DL is going to be reckless then your LB's better be able to grab that extra gear. Unfortunately we don't have that guy.

We have to play more aggressive at corner, and we have to bring more than 4 every play. We have to get to the quarterback if it takes bringing 5-6. We need to mix it up, the soft zone secondary coverage will get us eaten alive against Georgia. We have to bring things they haven’t seen. Make him throw the ball before he wants too. I would rather attack and get burned than sit back and get carved up like a early thanksgiving turkey. We have to tackle well at LOS and in space. We need the crowd to be all it can be! GBO

You have to hope the scheme we’re calling is because of a lack of talent. When we upgrade our secondary and linebackers, if we still run this crap all the time I’ll be shocked.

I wouldn't be shocked. I think this is more due to coaching and game prepping and adjustment rather than talent. We dont have Bama/GA talent but shouldn't be owned by Mizzou like this.

We have to play more aggressive . . . . . I would rather attack and get burned than sit back and get carved up . . . .
Couldn't agree more. Our secondary play leaves a ton to be desired. They are so soft in coverage, the opposing receivers are wide open 10-20 yards down field and can usually get 5-10 more before a defender is there to make the tackle. IF they make the tackle.

Agreed. He was exposed Saturday. First game I’ve watched this season and thought to myself… Man Herring speed is very concerning.
He was never supposed to be a starter. Let's be honest, he and his brother were a packaged deal. He was supposed to be a quality depth piece that played special teams. Our LB room's talent was decimated when Heupel got here and has not gotten much better since. We had to run off Banks and JuJu. We had a good portal piece that got a season-ending injury in his first game. We probably have good enough high school talent coming in a LB in the 2023 and 2024 classes, but could use another portal addition. Ideally, Pili and Arion Carter will be starters next year and Herring will be 2nd or 3rd string, but maybe a good player to play in games like Kentucky where you are playing LB in a phone booth.

You have hit the nail on the head my friend. That’s the question for sure; were we stuck in a failing scheme because the coaches are stubborn or is it because the talent and development levels left is no other option? Unfortunately for us, we will not know the answer until those next few classes get in. I do know that the bench is a whole lot thinner than it was when we took the field against UVA just a few months ago

We dont have any speedy linebacker can defend the edge? and why not bringing a few d-backs up vs sitting 10-15 yards behind LOS? Seeing a 240lb dude (no.44) chasing that Mizzou no.7 makes me want to pull my hair out. We had more depth in Florida game and we got beaten in a similar fashion (Cannot defend Pearsall, Etienne and Mertz). Again, we may not have the right talent but this is more of a coaching/prepping issue - elite coaches devise gameplan based on their available personnel and opponents, and then adjust. WE dont. Saban would call a timeout and chew up his DC/OC if he sees these crap on field.

90% of the game gets back to talent. If you don't have enough, you are susceptible to get beat against anyone. Saban or Kirby can just roll another 5 star out of bubble wrap when they have a devastating injury. Our backups are barely SEC-level players in some positions.

That’s really sad to think misery has more talent than us

That is definitely a damn big IF

He might grow into a DT or DE

This will continue until we are in the mix and landing the top players in this position group. I’m sorry but the 50th best player at any of the positions of need will not cut it in the SEC when our opponents are getting the top 1-4 every year, especially with our GREAT coaching

I know where he has been playing but I am saying he doesn’t need to be playing there. I think he needs to be moved to the line where his speed will not be exposed.

I would agree in most games. It is sometimes the defense that gasses the defense. If you can't stop 3rd down, you're doomed. Mizz was 11-17 on 3rd down. 65%. Offense was bad, Defense was worse.

The most degrading was the punt down to the 1 foot line. 3rd and long from basically their end zone and Cook breaks outside the pocket and scrambles for a first down. Back breaker!!
The qb scrambles in general have me in shambles every time. Like I don't love the soft zone coverage we seem to have on every big play. But I ****in hate the fact that a qb draw will all but guarantee you 20 yds against us

How many 3 and outs did we have this game? What was our t.o.p?Defense was probably gassed before halftime. Need to play complimentary. Can't score seven fn points and expect to beat anybody
Right! I seriously think we should have slowed our offense down this year. 3 and out and only 7 points puts a ton of pressure on the defense.

I dont want to watch this shitshow anymore but the wide open gaps we left in running lanes are just criminal. It feels like we were often playing 3 dl vs 7, got totally owned. LBs and high safety had 0 gap discipline. And NO ADJUSTMENTS from Banks. My grandma can run 200 yds on this free grass lawn. Totally unacceptable.
2 schools of thought :
A) Banks sees it but can’t adjust.
B)Banks doesn’t see it at all

Either way, this isn’t the guy you want running the defense

the defense graded out much higher than the offense last game, which is strange because of how HORRIBLE the defense played.

I think that just points to the fact that our defensive coaching is garbage and the players are pretty good.

Ugaly had talent to do whatever they wanted or needed to.

We had LB with OL speed being exposed.
We have many other shortcomings that UGA don’t
