Real Issue: Shooting %, not ball control

Nothing frustrates or annoys me more… than watching time and time again our guys miss wide open shots, but then the other team makes crazy contested shots.. just doesn’t make any sense. There are a lot of things I love about what Barnes has built here. But the overwhelming focus on Defense (which in most cases shows very impressively) but it literally has me wondering if we ever practice shooting.

We obviously practice offense, our guys are great at running around the 3 point line and passing it back and forth. (Blue font) it feels like we are very predictable and easily guarded. Barnes needs to adjust to a more modern offense and up tempo style. He over coaches in my opinion.

Are we comparing a pro Reggie Miller to college students staying and shooting? Our guys stay and out extra work in quite a bit but I don’t think many of them have pro level time to just shoot. They have more to do than just basketball.

There’s no reason to practice shooting at the college level. At this point guys have to put in work themselves.

If players are taking good shots and missing, there's nothing a coach can do about that other than have them shoot more shots on their own. You don't want to make your players even more self-conscious about their game time shooting (reports are that they shoot the lights out regularly in practice).

Ball control however, is something coaches CAN emphasize and effect positively by making players more conscious of. And if you're shooting poorly, the best way to create more points is to have more shooting possessions.
