Reality Check

To all the naysayers,,,,,Who would your "realistically" trade for CJH today?

Right here, right now,,,,,Who?

I think (actually I hope) given some time, some luck, some hard work, and some support Josh Heupel will have a statue out front of Neyland one day

So anyway, realistically who would you trade CJH for?

I'll give you the final say

The nitwits screaming for his head don't think it out that far. Funny thing is, what legitimate coach in their right mind would take a job at a school that fires a coach who went 25-12 off of what Heupel inherited?

I think when a team looks defeated, disoriented, discombobulated, ie Titans, thats when the talk should begin.

We are nowhere near that. Our team still plays hard and together. Don’t let VN trolls upset you. There are a lot of rabble rousers who probably get paid by other teams to come here and post.

Legit shot at winning 20 games last year and this year counting the bowls.

No one other than a very small minority are seriously talking about firing Heupel IMO.

This site has had a cottage industry of posters going over the top supporting or slamming coaches since Fulmer was fired.

Some people just enjoy stirring up drama.

The point is that we broke the 10-win ceiling last year for the first time in forever. With a chance to win 9 this season.

Way better than it has been in recent years.

Give the coach a chance for goodness sakes!

Preach !!! Amen my brother!

I'm on the CJH Train. Need to super reload and DB and WR, maybe replace the secondary coach, but I'm loving the last 3 years.

Truth.

And as others have said, many of the posters that dominated the forum on Saturday night starting inane threads only ever rear their heads after a bad loss or during a bad run. There is never the slightest bit of analysis or objective commentary, just ignorant flame throwing designed to get a response, which they succeeded in getting, including by me.

The best thing to do would be to let those obvious troll threads die without a response instead of engaging people who only want to stir the pot. This does not mean that valid criticism and discussion shouldn't take place, it just means that threads started asking about buyouts for a coach that has resurrected a program from the dead and flatly saying we'll never be able to compete don't deserve a response.

That’s why we play the games.
I’d rather find out on the field than just assume

I get that, and part of me looks forward to the expanded playoff. But I'd be surprised if after a few years we're not still looking at primarily the same names in the final four when it's said and done. I'd love to be proven wrong.

I personally like the “it doesn’t work and never has” stupidity.

Here are the football records for the last 16 seasons.

Note that HALF were LOSING seasons.

Heupel has the best season by far (and the best going all the way back to 98)…and with two more wins this season would tie for the second-best record, too.

So…my question: How are so many on here losing their freaking minds over this season? You act like South Carolina fans thinking that anything less than perfection isn’t good enough. When our recent history doesn’t back up your expectations.

I remain all-in on Heupel. By far the best coach we’ve had since early-00s Fulmer.
Well said!

The 12 team playoff will certainly open things up
The question is can we be competitive enough in this league to consistently crash the party? Bama, UGA, LSU, Texas, OU aren't going anywhere. Recruiting and support is just too good. How many will one league get in? When I look at those 5 programs, I'm having a hard time see who we'd likely jump over on a regular basis. Far more likely that it will take a generous schedule from time to time for that to happen. Considering how the league screws us in baseball and after looking at what they put on our plate next season, I'm doubtful we won't remain the league whipping boys.

This is just lazy. You can't look at the past for your current season. Look at the quality of the teams on this years schedule. Look at how competitive we were in loses. This season is a disappointment. period. I don't care what Butch and Pruitt did. Not an excuse for this team.

IMO the future is bright for the program with competent administration because the future of the state of Tennessee is bright. We have a booming population and wealth moving into the state. We are 4th in GDP (SEC) behind Texas, Florida and Georgia. The other SEC states are near the bottom and the gap is growing for the most part. This bodes well for UT because there will be a growing in-state recruiting base and we’ll be able to outspend Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, etc with NIL.

Finishing 9-4 or even 8-5 give us our best 3 season stretch (26-13 or 27-12) since the 2002-2004 seasons (28-11)

Yet people are calling for Heupel to have a warm seat

I was gonna post something like this, so kudos to you. And, Heupel inherited a program that was a dumpster fire, very similar to what Majors walked into following Battle. Took Majors, fresh off a NC who knew how to build a NC team, 7 years before TN was competitive again and he had the program on solid ground when Fulmer took over. I know, facts are lost here but hey, got to try.

Majors posted 4-7, 5-5-1,7-5,5-6,8-4 in his first 5 years. With this crowd he would not have made it to the SEC championship team in 85.

Our recent history of crappy football was the product of extreme mismanagement of the program from top to bottom. **That is not a proper benchmark.** Stop acting like it is to justify glaring issues.

Ga and Bama are consistent. Those others are like us, up and down. Texas and Oklahoma, while more successful recently, are joining the party and are honestly down here with us and LSwho. We will make runs. We have too much money and fan support not too. Especially now that we have a coach good enough to make those runs.

Looking up actual facts to give context is not lazy.

What is lazy is pulling your fing out of your ___, sticking it in the air to feel which way the wind is blowing and spouting off judgments without any factual support.

The Florida loss was disappointing, but it still was a conference road game at night. The other three losses were to really good football teams (with two being on the road).

The bottom line is that this Vols team is not great by any stretch. Getting to 8-4 with some solid conference wins is not the end of the world.
