Really UF? [discontinues Gator Bait cheer]

Lynchings occurred. Dismemberment and beatings occurred. Slaves were burned alive. Slavery was an evil practice.

But I’m supposed to believe that alleged ‘gator bait’ events in 1923 or 1908 at the New York Zoo were a pattern of racial intimidation?

It probably happened. But I don't think it influenced the chant at all. Are they going to come after Volunteers next because it could offend Mexicans?

The mob is scaring people into submission. Of course the chant isn't racist. Who before this month ever thought that? NO ONE!

Didn't the state of Tennessee send "Volunteers: to fight in the "War between the States"

I guess UT will now be changing the Nickname. smh
That's from the war of 1812. Surprising that so few of you know so little yet feel the need to spread your ignorance weirdly defending old racism. Take a breath.

Yet another example of PC gone mad. What does this accomplish? Is anyone happy with this?

It's not at all surprising it hit UF as Gainesville is full of looney tune lefties.

They need to. I see the Washington Redskins remaining conspicuously silent...

I've worked in tribal casinos in the southwest for the better part of the last decade. One of the places I worked at was in the town of Parker, Arizona. It's a small town on the border with California. About as far as one can get from Washington D.C. in distance and culture. Anyway one night I happened to be working the Redskins were playing a Monday or Thursday night game. The casino bar was full of local tribal members wearing Washington Redskins gear and cheering on their team.

I'm always amazed that the people who are offended by these names likely have never actually met any Native Americans or been away from whatever coastal metropolitan area they reside in.

That doesn't make any sense. A baby would be an untapped asset to a slave owner.
The tale would be more believable if it were old people.

Racists aren't known to be deep thinkers. Plus, this was an early 20th century thing. If you cared to read anything about it before belching out this nonsense you might've known that.

Your anecdotal evidence is dubious at best.

War of 1812 genius! There were “Volunteers “ during every war as well.

Learn your history. Tennessee wasn’t a state during the Revolutionary War, chief.
