Really, Why does ESPN hate Tennessee

i think the only thing he meant about our offense being boring was the way randy sanders and fulmer run it. pound the rock again and again to tire the defense and then open it up with the pass. thats tennessee football. as for the florida comment about the kick being diluted becaus eof a bad call i disagree. a win over florida is a win over florida no matter what. and ill gladly shove it in thier face. :yahoo:

The fact that he dilutes wins because simply because of a call, that at the time, wasn't as obviously wrong as it ended up being, tells me all I need to know.

The Personal Foul was the right call. The second man ALWAYS gets called. The goof up, was not restarting the clock, which no one was even talking about until the SEC admitted the mistake.

I watched it last night, and Tennessee would have still had 2-3 plays so who is say that we wouldn't have gotton loose on a TD, and won by more.

That game was lost by Florida when they missed a 20something yard field goal in the third, and couldn't pick up a first down with a minute to play.

Me too... But the context here is in the eyes of the media, and while we all went nuts during the kick (I was jumping and screaming for about two straight minutes in my living room while my mom was contemplating a psychiatric examination), the prevailing thoughts around the country were "Well the officials sure screwed that game up."

And BWV, I know the way it turned out, and we still got the win. But the fact is our final judges include the media, and a win means less when it comes under questionable circumstances like that.

He's young, he's from Oregon (See Pac-10) and he has NEVER seen the Vols play live.

No offense to one of our beloved Mods, but I don't put much stock in his opinions of our team.

LOL, and I feel so strongly about it, that I had to say it twice.

Then make your point instead of just slamming someone for having an opinion.

I know but even if they did goof up not restarting the clock. Zook could have said somethin about it. But he wasnt a good enough coach to realize that :nener:

It was a double post by mistake. I was attemping to make a joke about my mistake instead of simply erasing it, and writing "double post".

Wow, This topic took off real quick. I like the way Tennessee plays the game. I forgot who said it, but running it and tiring the D and then pass to give a double threat. That is the way it should be. I guess ESPN doesn't like that because they are looking for big play clips to cram into the thousands of sportscenter shows they have.

While you may not realize it Milo, you are making a very good point FOR the strong media bias against UT. Back in Y2K, Fla won the game in Ktown on a blown call that was much more obvious than a clock error. Jabar Gafney dropped a pass in the end zone on the last play of the game and the zebras called it a touchdown. Have you ever seen that play Milo? Replays clearly show that he never had possession, yet they got credit for the win anyway. There was no outcry against the refs that day from espn or anybody else for that matter. There sure was alot of defense of them though. "They're only human" , and "refs make mistakes, but overall they do a good job" and other such bulls**t. That win sure didn't "mean less" in the eyes of the media because of questionable circumstances. Hell, that was touted as one of the major wins for SOS that year.

All I can say to that is, I know the media loves Spurrier and probably would not do much to discredit him as well. I mean, he might really be recognized as the most well-known coach of the 90's because of what he did, said and all the media coverage he got.

There's a thread in the main page. I'm sure you're familiar with Atreus, the resident LSU fan here. He brought up the fact that at TigerForums.com, they have beef with ESPN for being a Tenn. homer. I kid you not. Fans from about 99% of the programs in the country have beef with ESPN that they don't respect their program enough.

I can't really speak too well to the Majors comment, except that it happened 13 years ago and I'd find it quite hard to believe a grudge like that can hold over that strongly for that long. You think ESPN would have moved on.

I hear ya MBRO. I was at that game and it took me about a week to get over that call after the Vols lead the entire game. I will respectfully disagree that Tennessee doesn't get due respect. If ya'll remember about 15 to 20 years ago that was true and it would burn me up. But in the past 8 to 10 years I believe we have started to get the respect we deserve, especially after Fowler stuck his foot in his mouth with the trailer park remark...

I like watching Tennessee football as a fan... And my favorite style of football is the grind-it-out kind that UT plays. Run it up the gut every time, all the time. I believe that is the way football was meant to be played. But as far as mass appeal, most casual viewers like air-it-out, big offense, high-scoring games which UT does not do.

And last year, I had to miss just Vandy and Kentucky. I think it was just because the media was having a love affair with Brent Schaeffer, because he represents the kind of football that gets high ratings. This season, I will probably have to miss UAB, Memphis, Vandy, Kentucky and maybe Ole Miss.

we will so prove to espn that we arent just another team to be concided in ratings during the offseason our playin will show them
