Reason for optimisim

The power of the mind is a topic I have been focused on for 20 years. People would be amazed at what they can set their mind to.

very true.. and discussing these things with our fellow vols to help the mental health of the crew is time well spent in the slow off season IMO

Hope and despair, thy name is Vol.

Realism works best. Then you can focus on what makes winning happen versus the optimist that misses the weak spots and the pessimist that sees no reasons for hope. I hope our coaches see it as realists. It's the only way to build a team that wins long term. This staff is starting off as realists. Whether they can recruit and develop at the SEC level or not, we have no idea about at this stage. That will happen on the field in the fall and with the next recruiting class on NSD 2014.

Sure you want the coaches to be realists. But the only thing that benefits the program fan-wise is universal acceptance of the new coaches and all-out enthusiam for the coming season. Optimism equates to fans in the stands yelling their guts out, whereas pessimism promotes sitting on one's hands or being a no-show.

I heard Dave Serrano a few minutes ago say his baseballers were going to shock people this year and that UT being picked 6th in the east was a joke. And that next year -if not this one - we'd be in the mix of teams going to Omaha. If for the fact that it was raining and I couldn't get in, I was inclined to drive over to Lindsey Nelson stadium and make some noise. As it is, I'll wait until the home opener against Arizona St.

Its apparent that Jones has a similar mindset as Serrano, and is willing to be a little brash and prone to want to
raise expectations. Beats me why some so-called fans wouldn't respect that.

Our team and players desperately need this kind of optimism you are discussing. They also deserve it; I will catch some flack from the self centered posters on here

I didn't watch the video.

Let's see how optimistic we are after the return from Eugene this Fall.

I'm optimistic we whip the Ducks, and the next team, and the next team, and the next team...see what I'm saying.:pepper::pepper::pepper::pepper::pepper:
GO VOLS!

i wish everyone would quit living in hypotheticals, i am really tired of seeing posts where people wish they had this person or that person. The staff is the one we have and we need to get used to it and quit comparing them to people that had no intentions/reason of being here. This staff works hard for the tennessee brand and everyone will continue to be disappointed if we keep comparing them to pipe dreams. Get behind them and support the ones that are here!

ditto !

Look it's been rough since 2007! I'm a graduate from 1985, same with my wife. Son graduated from UT plus from their Master of Accounting School, have a daughter that's a Jr. so I have money and time invested in UT. I went to the UT recruiting update in Nashville. Give Mr. Jones a chance. When Dooley was hired my wife heard me *****ing from my office. Ok now we have Butch and so far he has not won or LOST a game. I will tell you he gets it. For those of you non believers just listen to him. Talk is cheap but I will tell you he gets it. From a heavy supporter. Hang in there fans!!

When the years start to turn into decades, the emotional toll that is exacted is more than some people want to pay year after year after year. It gets to the point where you just cannot afford to be optimistic because there is never any positive reinforcement, only mind-numbing disappointment. It is better to be a wait and see person than a we are going 13-0 person

I get what you are saying. But saying 13-0 is not only optimistic....it's unrealistic...crazy, really. Saying that we win 7 and maybe upset a big boy or win our bowl game is, imo, true optimism (for where we are today). Saying that CBJ has the best staff in the country...silly. Saying that he is a good hire and might be what this program needs to return to relevance, optimistic. You can lament that you are not getting your hopes up and that you are expecting the worst so that you are not disappointed but, the truth is that you will still get hurt when we lose (no matter how much you prepare yourself) and I bet you will allow the glowing sunshine of hope to creep in if we begin to show something special on Saturdays. Why?...optimism. It is all about being a sports fan.

That trio was in the "they will never leave" club and now it sounds like the "no reason to be here" club. If Tee in fact goes to FSU it completes the trifecta, with schools other than UT simply offering what it took ie giving them reasons.

But with the best coaching staff in America who needs any of the top 100 recruiters?

No, I am going to universally accept and show all out enthusiasm just because he put on an orange tie and said that he wants to be here. Just like Dooley

Oh, wait ....
