It seems that we need lineman more than anything else this year. We are good at receiver, QB, Special Teams, and descent at LB and DB.

Can anyone list up all DL and OL recruits and their stars (not that it's the only thing that matters) and then other DL and OL recruits with UT high on their list?

Where do you all think we stand?

We need to zone block again. Three of what we got going in the same direction while one checks for LB. Hardesty had wide open holes against some of the best defenses last year. With a so so OL.

I'm not sure about decent at LB. I'd be worried about lack of speed and athleticism with that unit for the future. Getting AJ Johnson is a help. Hopefully they can land at least 1-2 more of his talent to finish out this class. DB they have actually recruited solidly so far IMO so it isn't going to be a huge worry in the future.

I think your right. Last years line was a little better but Hardesty had some huge holes

We aren't zone blocking this year! isn't that's the reason we kept Chaney

I would also say we are average at best on special teams. Kicking/Punting has been pretty good, but returning and covering have been pitiful.

Someone must be watching a different team dressed in orange than I am. We are not good at reciever (they make a few catches, but seldom put on a move) Special teams is a laugh, and our linebackers are making so many plays because the d-line and DB are both playing soft. We better shape up quick if you ask me

The return game on punts and kickoffs is just brutal so special teams certainly can't qualify on the whole, as being good.

To the poster above:

On the OL we have

Kerbyson- 3 star, potential 4 star (Offers from USCw and UF among others) He is a 4 star on Scout

Posey- High 3 star on Rivals, 4 star on ESPN

Crowder- 3 star Center- one of the top 5-8 centers in the nation. Offers from USCe and Va. Tech.

Guys we are still in on

1. Richardson- 4 star- #1 Target on our board with Clear.

2. Cameron Clear- 4 star- Many feel like he is going to be a Tackle somewhere while others feel he will play DL.

On the DL

Alan Carson- 3 star- Looks like a good NT for the 3-4 at 327 lbs. Is having a big senior year in HS.

Travis Saulsberry- Looks like he will be a DE in the 3-4, which means he would be a DT in the 4-3. 3 star, who's stock is rising according to people.

Then at DT we are in it for:

1. Gabe Wright- 4 star: Some say we lead, some say we are #2 behind Auburn.

2. Mickey Johnson- 4 star: He has listed us #1 for a good while now

3. Maurice Couch- In his top 4: JUCO DT with an impressive offer list and is a 4 star.

4. Lonnie Gosha- In his top 5: 4 star

We are currently evaluating a lot of JUCO DTs, so stay tuned there. This staff wants 1 JUCO DT.

At DE:

Juda Parker: Stock soared after a camp: Is a 3 star and is said to be a perfect fit for that hybrid DE/LB spot in the 3-4.

Don't think this is as big of a need until next year with Jackson, Martin, Smith, and Miller all here for this upcoming season. I think big time DE recruiting starts next year moreso that this year.

I agree that UT needs men in the trenches. However, as the season progresses, other needs are as glaring.

Offense
  • OL: 3 commits. Need 2 more (including Clear)
  • TEs: 2 commits. No more.
  • WRs: 0 commits. Need 2.
  • RB: 1 commit. Need 1 more.
  • QB: 1 commit. No more.

Defense
  • DT: 2 commits. Need 2 more (but possibly take 3 if the right recruits choose UT).
  • DE: 1 commit. Need 1 more. (Lose 2 this year. Could be 3 if Jackson chose to leave).
  • LB: 2 commits. Need 1 more (OLB with speed).
  • DB: 3 commits. Need 3-4 more. (General consensus around the program is supposedly that UT is in dire need of DBs and may take as many as 7).

Also, can't emphasize how much UT needs to improve overall team speed with this class. I would expect one of the WRs, a RB and a couple of the DBs from the 2011 class to be competing for returns next Fall.

We are NOT good at QB or LB.

According to the above post we need 13 more players to fill our needs for this class, & I agree with him. Problem is we only have 11 spots left.

We only have 10 spots if you count Loften and Dixon, but that also means we will only take 1-2 more DBs.

RB- 1
WR- 2
OL- 2
DT- 2
DE- 1
LB- 1
DB- 1

Your right I was counting Loften & forgetting about Dixon. LV have you noticed that on ESPNS commit list for us it has Dixon on there but not Loften?

Also if thats how you see it breaking down then my guess would be we finish up the class with these guys.

RB - 4* Andrew Buie
WR - 4* DeAnthony Arnett, 3* Vincent Dallas (should be a 4*)
OL - 4* Antonio Richardson, 4* Cameron Clear
DT - 4* Gabe Wright, 4* Mickey Johnson
DE - I have no idea what DE's we are on besides Leon Mackey
LB - 3* Gionni Paul
DB - 3* Derek King

nah I hadn't noticed that. That's kinda weird.

I'm not sure what we are doing at DE either. 3 of the 4 guys we wanted are committed (Pagan, Tuitt, Newberry) and we are falling with Drew. I'd say we still want Curt Maggitt, but the other guys are fallbacks and I'm not sure how much we like any of them: Jordan Williams, Jesse Hayes, Giovanni Francois, Barron Dixon.

Yea I noticed it earlier when I was looking at the list, I thought it was kinda weird.

At one point we could have pushed for a commitment from Williams couldnt have we? I remember him saying he almost commited with Saulsberry.
