I know that a lot of you guys follow recruiting a lot closer than I do. So because of that I'm asking 2 questions to get your opinions on this class?

Are you concerned that this class is going to be a let down to continue to progress and what concerns you about it besides ranking alone?

Also, if their are a few recruits out their that we still have a chance with that could improve this class who are they and what do you think our chances are?

There are huge concerns at OL, LB, and DT.
Recruits see results and while a 8-3 record is not bad tunnel vision is.
Most of them probably knew that this was Tennessee year and they blew it again.
The only positive is playing time you can hand recruits playing time at the positions listed.

You didn't answer his question at all. I'm guessing you aren't a recruiting "expert." You are pretty good at posting really negative comments though.

I know there is no hope for the eternal pessimist, but as far as I'm concerned things still seem to be moving in the right direction for the Vols. I know vandy isn't a gimmie, but when we beat them, we will have improved our regular season win total each year of CBJs tenure.

Sorry I didn't answer your question either OP, but honestly I don't know. I don't follow recruiting that closely.

Go Vols!

It is a really good DT class. We have some really talented players there. We have one of the best running backs in the country. Should be top 3 imo. Ingot is also a good player. I think we have some underrated guys in this class such as Labruzza, Murphy, Bembry and some others. But I am concerned with the class, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't. If we compare our class to the top classes like GA and others, we aren't even close. So while there are some great pieces, It's not where we need to be if we want to compete at a high level. I do believe that we will sign Trey Smith. I have no idea about anyone else. Hopefully we get Wade because we need an elite lockdown corner. One of our biggest needs however, is a big time defensive end. We do not have an elite DE in this class and we need one bad! We've seen the kind of impact Barnett has had. We need a guy who can fill that role, even if they are not as good as Barnett is.

No! But truth is, nobody knows accept the coaching staff. We have to wait and see. Butch haters will tell you that there are all kinds of concerns and that the sky is falling. We all know when NSD is and the only people who really know the whole picture are the coaches. You always have people who want to throw crap against the wall and see what sticks.

I am not worried about February yet b/c tons of things will change until then. People seem to think recruits see us as screwing up this year but I believe they have been in organized sports long enough that they know exactly the effects of a team decimated with injuries will have on a season...doesn't matter if it was supposed to be "the year".

Will be behind Georgia, Bama and probably UF by the time the ink is dry. Since we play those teams every year then i'd say that isn't particularly good. Not a recruiting expert but we seem to be on our plan B with a lot of guys. Some head scratchers in there too.

It doesent take an expert to see that they are banking on a lot of "diamonds in the rough". Sure you might get lucky with one but consistently going to the well eventually the bucket is gonna come up empty.

How the hell is it negative if it's the truth? Butch banked on legacies and came through but legacies don't come through every year. Tennessee is suffering at positions of need and all the proof is in the tape this season. Butch was handed the east two years in a row and pissed the bed by either close games or losing to lesser teams when he had the better team. That's on him he can't continue to say the team needs to own it. Good coaches own their mistakes and make nessasary coaching changes Butch refuses to.

When you refuse to change you get fired just ask Miles.

And starting from scratch at the most important position in the sec: QB

Name a team in the SEC (other than Bama) that didnt have disappointments? There isnt one. Look at Ole Miss and LSU. If Butch lost 4 with LSUs roster people would flip out.

Signing class should be a minimum of 70% 4* to even think about competing with the upper echelon teams.

The most important aspect is fit with in the system and addressing needs. We have lots of OL and DT committed which aren't traditionally highly ranked as much as the skill positions. There are some upgrades coming. This class will finish 10-12. Will be solid. Don't pay attention to the star gazers.

We all are waiting breathlessly for your next post Dud, but let us address this one first: OL - We have two com. so far but are leading for a 4* TJ Moore, and 5* Trey Smith.
LB - 4* Will Ignont, 4* Maleik Gray and 2-3* players.

DT - Two 4*, and two 3*.

So tell me now, what is your gripe.

You just can't be competitive in the SEC with a class that's 75% 3 stars and that's what this class is.

Don't completely disagree with you but I look at offer lists more so than stars and some of these comitts have good offers. But doesn't matter if it's a 2* or a 5* if they don't get proper coaching and improve from when they start it won't matter and Butch and his staff haven't sold me on they can do anything other than recruit.

history tells me that with this staff two of those LB will be DEs before practice starts nxt year. With the way this seaon went Tennessee needs 5 on both lines to compete with the injuries.

The sad thing is that we can't put emotion aside anymore to objectively answer a question based on valid reasoning.

The guys that are pro butch:
"This class will finish up fine and address our needs."

Guys that are anti-butch:
"This class is a disappointment and will be the downfall of this staff."

That is what I was trying to avoid and ask the question what do you think of this class and what gives you reason to think that. The days of calling a spade a spade are gone. Everyone is about their agenda and to proud to risk them being "wrong." I appreciate you guys that honesty tried to answer the question

Well, it's negative, when you don't know what the truth is yet. Even if our class is rated lower, we won't know until 2-3 years have passed just how good this class is. We are in the running for several highly ranked players still. QB is a concern as Butch likes to take one with every class. Trey Smith is very important and I hope that we can get him. He is the most important, moving forward, in my opinion. We are still after some good CB, including Wade and Corker, and others. We are still in it for a great RB from Mississippi and some other OL. I also think that there will be surprises. We are nowhere near finished yet. All of this is completely my opinion. I am not surprised that most of the people espousing how bad this class will be almost never post here. I will say that I am not overly excited at this point, but there is still a good ways to go.
