Because it makes no sense. Nico is gonna after 25 if he is as good as we hope. There's no reason for him to sit unless he sucks, then he won't even be in Knoxville at that point.

This is projection.

Nobody, including him and his family, know that. There could also be substantial family pressure to get his degree first regardless.

This fanbase acting like they know the personal goals and outlook of a family is pure hubris.

What we do know, is that a redshirt allows Nico to develop slowly without pressure and allows maximum flexibility on the backend of his career. It has been obvious from day one that him and his family, for whatever reason, value the qualities of redshirting.

If you think recruiting is bad now, imagine the word getting out that Heupel promised to respect the redshirting wishes of a top player only to double back on that promise to salvage a short-term win.

Imagine throwing away a whole season and they guy is gone in 2 years as a top 10 pick in the draft.

Yeah this has been a very Butch Jones season by Heupel. Best wins are a UTSA team without their star QB, a mid-UK team, and an A&M team that fired their coach. We struggled to put away teams like UVA and Austin Peay and lost to any team with a pulse in embarrassing fashion each time.

It seems like no adjustments have been made on the offense since the first game. It’s the same bubble screen, inside run, overthrow on third down offense on like 7/10 drives. Occasionally we hit a big play but our offense is stalling out at to high of a rate for it to matter.

Heupel needs an aggressive offseason. He needs to go after all the top DB transfer prospects and throw the money around to bring in whatever elite staff members he can.
We were up 21-3 at half to UVA and it was never in doubt. This is what gets me about fans. They go back and change history to rationalize their argument.

Butch Jones lost to Missouri in 3 of 5 years and to Vanderbilt 3 of 5 years (even though he didn’t coach the last one). We struggled to beat average teams.

Just not all that talented tbh. They also tend to play inside, which goes against our schematics. We haven't had top ones since Dooley tbh.

Just wait till Ethan Davis 👀

Gimme a break...Castles and Warren are plenty athletic...Joe and this playcalling is horrible.

It’s reaching the point that I’m convincing myself that Nico must be hot trash and a major bust because that is the ONLY thing I can imagine that would explain how Heupel has handled the offense this year.

Otherwise there is just really no excuse. Starting to get concerned that Hooker is Heupel’s Dobbs and last year was as good as it will ever get. Like I said earlier, we’ve been as uncompetitive in our losses this year as we were in Year 1. That is just not acceptable for a program trying to make the next step.
Lmfao put down the ayahuasca man

Peyton himself would have sat in Y1 if not for injury. Joe never once imploded this season. He never had such a terrible game as to sit him. He just never moved things the way this offense requires.

Nico 2024, he's going to be freaking insane in this offense after a full offseason with these dudes + Matthews + Davis.

All you guys just assuming he’s going to be the next coming of Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and Joe Montana all rolled into one is what makes no sense.
