If only it were set up my European soccer where another school would have to pay us for the work we did finding and developing someone like Tobe Awaka. Then we could use that money to bring in a bigger transfer....Man has to suck to do all that work to find great players under the radar and then soon as you get them developed into potential starters they just leave you...
Is what it is, I admire the hell out of our players that have stuck it out here for the long haul even more in this new age of "grass is always greener" mentality that NIL & free transfers has created.
I've had my bell rung more times than I can count. I have never thought about offing myself and I do physics, calculus and statistics for a living. The game was not changed to protect players from injury it was changed to benefit lawyers. Follow the money.Gosh darn concussion driven suicides and dementia ruining everything.
Just speculating based on what I've gathered: Tobe was a virtual nobody when he arrived. He had a promising freshman season. But nothing to the level of us giving him lifechanging NIL money either season.I can not deal with losing Awaka. Frankly would have rather have lost Aidoo. Why? He was deeply religious and fit in with Rick Barnes, you'd think. Could we not equal NIL payments? Does anyone know what happened?

This year for most of the season he was firmly on the bench. He wasn't playing much - though in large part to his foul troubles. Towards the end of the season and during the NCAA tournament (after he'd already bee contacted by a couple schools) he played his best basketball by far of his career. Important points and rebounds when Aidoo crumbled under the pressure.
So what I suspect is that his play justified - to a lot of suitors - that he's worth a bigger price tag. He's also supposedly been lamenting distance from home and being away from his family in New York. We have a lot of checks to write this offseason and I just think we weren't willing to pay him what he needed to stay versus the opportunity to make great money, be in a starting lineup, and be closer to home.
And by his statement is sounds like he really will miss Knoxville, the team, and Vol Nation but it was just the move he needed to make for himself. I don't think its the wrong decision or that we messed up. Just iss what it is.
I in no way look forward to Barnes’ eventual retirement, but Danny White’s hires certainly indicate the next UT BB coach is gonna bring some fun basketball.Heupel: Offensive Genius.
Caldwell: Offensive Genius.
Vitello: Offensive Genius.
Weakley: All Around Great (Top 10 in ERA and Scoring).
Barnes: Defensive Genius.
Barnes probably joking he could scheme ways to shut them both down
