Records don't mean anything in mid week games. There's more parity in baseball and having a good pitcher can determine the outcome. Umpire zones also help/hurt. Cal state Fullerton is historically one of the best baseball schools. Not saying Tennessee should lose to Queens, I'm just saying baseball is unlike basketball or football where the smaller schools can win 1 game out of a 3 game series.

*I get baseball is different but it's still something that involves the Tennessee Volunteers. We're not given a better seeding in basketball or higher rank in football because we're UT, it's been the opposite. The ones that matter (mainly, the NCAA committees for various sports) are quick to bring up losing games that meant nothing. Once again...... I understand baseball is different and some on this board will still try to convince me that losing mid-week games doesn't matter but I know how it's been in other sports for us.

Against Lipscomb and tonight, the major shortcoming has been Phillips's performance on the mound. He's not had good outings recently.

I think they mentioned a few weeks ago on a broadcast that the coaches say he's got all the tools and talent to be a weekend pitcher but needs more consistency and belief in himself.
