KISS is so cheesy, but were great marketers. Props for their business skills.I picked Poison because they're not that great and yet they did it better. It was quite intentional. There's a reason Kiss isn't in the Hall despite their popularity. They are GWAR without the fake blood.
Someone brought them up on The Bennington Show the other day as their guilty pleasure band growing up. Some other good ones were mentioned (Supertramp) but one caller took it really far - apparently a mid 30s man really into HansonI’ll just say Queensrÿche is probably the best of the 80’s metal bands imo. Operation Mindcrime is eerily applicable today.
Nirvana killed metal but then Kurt killed himself and rock hasn't been the same since then. It's a shame too because 'classic rock' now sells the same albums over and over and over every year and encompasses a zillion old styles from alt and prog to acid but not much new is being added. The market is there for a rock n'roll band if anyone has the talent and gumption. In fact, it's starving for new content.
I think of KISS as more of a 70's band than an 80's band, particularly if you're referencing their imagery (makeup shtick).KISS is so cheesy, but were great marketers. Props for their business skills.
They'll go down more for their merchandise and imagery than music. Typical trend of the 80s culture, glamour and materialism...image over substance.
At the time it was basically music for teens of the day to piss their parents off. They had KISS like 90s kids had...idk...Limp Bitzkit or whatever
