Pyne, like all players at that time, was granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA for being a player during the pandemic-impacted 2020 season, and then redshirted the 2021 season with the Irish. He medically redshirted with Arizona State in 2023, meaning he has used just one of his four granted years of eligibility.

After this season, Pyne will have two more seasons to play football, meaning he could potentially spend eight years in the sport, if he so chooses.
