Recruiting Football Talk VIII

If we had losses to Vanderbilt, Bama, and a 24-3 blowout loss to Okie two weeks ago (the equivalent of Bama's results), does anyone think talking heads, sportswriters, and Birmingham would be turning the world upsidedown demanding that we get in?
And we beat Georgia and South Carolina while blowing the doors off Mizzou and LSU?

Yes we'd be in the exact same spot if we had Bama's schedule. And everyone would be in here saying the SEC/ NCAA was trying to cheat us by anyone having the audacity to put South Carolina in front of us.

There seems to be some theoretical consensus recently that firing and hiring coaches in this NIL era is counterproductive and you might be better off funneling money into your collective instead.
It's really the portal. A coach leaves and so does the team and your right the poachers come bearing that NIL.

I think CFP ratings will be through the roof without Bama and that is the reason for all the desperate overwrought lobbying by the usual suspects to get Bama included.

Otherwise, Bama is going to be watching from their living room while viewership and enthusiasm set records. And that would mean...
I think you are right, a lot of people, including those in charge, are using an outdated paradigm. The ratings will be through the roof one because of the novelty and the fact that many people fail to realize how non competitive teams like Indiana, Boise, and SMU are going to be. Next year the autobids will be gone or the ratings will tank.

I will be disappointed if nobody drafts spraggins. I would also hope any of our senior interior DLinemen get serious consideration.

We have a couple in senior bowl right? Would assume those guys get looks.
Spraggins/BigO/BigE all scream day 3 picks to me. I believe Eason has more potential, could even play his way up higher if he comes back.

He will go round 1. Anthony Richardson did, Nico definitely will.

Too early to say that class will be weak, but you’ll have
Lanoris Sellers
Jackson Arnold
Sam Leavitt
Jaylen Raynor
Avery Johnson

I like his chances.
That’s how I see it too. If AR can go first round Nico should be a lock. Nico has better stats in his first year starting than AR’s draft year stats. Even if Nico doesn’t get much better, which I doubt, he should still go 1st round because it seems like NFL coaches don’t trust college coaches to develop QBs as well as themselves anyways so they take them based off potential.

Oh for sure. They’ll hopefully get it fixed. Might even add 4 more teams which could fix a lot of the problems. But we need as unbiased as committee members as possible on the committee. No more ADs of rival teams/conferences
That's too many teams imo. I think while USCe is a compelling narrative, and they are playing very well today... Doesn't their whole season come in to play? Saying that we need more teams to accommodate a team, or teams, like USCe, Bama, Ole miss, Miami etc..

They all had multiple opportunities to get in after all... More teams makes the regular season mean less. We're already rationally saying USCe should get in even tho they lost to 2 teams currently ahead of them... Because they beat USCe.

There's something inherently wrong with that, when the best thing about college football has always been the importance of the regular season, and the reward/consequence for winning and losing.

Now, none of that will matter when making a decision about playoff expansion. If it nets more $$$, it'll happen... So I get that. Just can't pretend that expansion improves the competitive balance of the sport, because it doesn't. At 16 teams all three sec teams get in, rendering the outcomes of all those games pointless, except for seeding... Maybe.

Prada you 👏
I bought Fet.ai when it was at like .09 cents but said nah I’m good because I was impatient and my fiancé got mad at me at the time because I spent 95% of my time on my phone looking at stocks, crypto, etc.

I did a ton of futures trading after that and got humbled real quick. Told myself that being patient pays off.

I regret selling all my shares in Fet.Ai though. Both of those were recommended by a guy from X.

If I had Fet.Ai still to go with XRP, I’d probably quit my job next year lol

Disagree. There would definitely be national discussion about it, but it wouldn't be serious and we wouldn't be the first SEC team out right now. We would also have plenty of "objective" people on this board arguing SC should be ahead of us.

I used to think Nico would go pro next year. I don't think so anymore. Not hating, but he has developing to do.
2026? He'll be gone for sure, unless he just likes college like Peyton did. He will probably be the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, heck he would be a top ten pick this spring if he were eligible. NFL people don't really value results and stats nearly as high as tools and frame.

Oh I agree. I wasn't advocating for going back in time...I don't think we need more, or less, teams. I do think the model for selecting the 12 teams needs a lot of work. Current format is stupid... And as much subjectivity as possible should be taken out. You need some. I do think there is, and should be a human component... But with that come bias. So that needs to be reduced... But whatever degree we can and still makes sense.
The BCS was the right mix of objectivity and human element. It wasn't just the computer, polls were considered. It valued what has been traditionally valued in college football throughout history. The main human elements that the CFP Committee brings are incompetence, bias, and corruption.

I disagree completely with your take. How can I say that? We were looking at a 10-2 result a few weeks ago and everyone had written us off until Ole Miss and Bama lost the same weekend. There is a total love affair/bias in the national media with Bama and OSU. It’s insane.
