Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Yeah looks good.

I would’ve done that and made another with 1, 1, 1, 3

Then I would’ve taken each one as a straight. I don’t bet on one game nights, always weird
That 1,1,1,3 would have hit. But, if Giannis gets one block and SGA gets one steal in the 4th, mine will hit, also

Okay guys, my son finally talked me into braving the cold for the game Saturday night and making the 45 mile drive to the Shoe for the first time. Section 8C. We've only been going to games for the past several years, but we're yet to lose (mostly due to my aversion to paying for tickets where we might lose, lol).

2021 South Alabama
2022 Pitt
2023 Vandy
2024 UTEP

At the end of the day, couldn't have our team this close and not help with the Big Orange invasion of this God forsaken conference! See you guys there!
If it wasn't for Florida this year breaking the "curse" for me I wouldn't be going this Saturday. Before the win this year vs Florida my last games attended were...

2021 Purdue
2022 UGA
2023 Florida

Those last two were miserable experiences.

I was so mad when we drew OSU. The more I read and see stuff like this the more I like our chances. On one hand all the odds are being stacked against us and you know there will be a bunch of bs, and on the other hand osu fans seem like they want to pick up their ball and go home and we might have 20-25% of the stadium wearing orange.

It’s unreal how many shows Taylor Sheridan has done the last 6-7 years. Yellowstone, Tulsa Kings, Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness, 1883, 1923, Lawmen Bass Reeves, Landman. Really enjoyed them all. Supposedly there is a Yellowstone spin-off coming. Obviously Jamie won’t be in it.

Warning: LONG AND RAMBLING

Ok so if you are Heupel what’s the script for this game?

You know OSU comes out running the ball away from the teeth of the defense, with designed plays to attack the perimeter and back end through the air, getting the ball out quick or on the move. Then on the other side of the ball, they will stack the box, play press, blitz, anything to not let us run, get easy yards or materialize the deep ball.

I think the defense has to have a tremendous game because their offense is gonna have a good game plan to mitigate our pass rush and take advantage of any talent mismatches. Do we blitz more to get to the qb and rattle him? Do we try to get to him with 4-5, banking on their depleted offensive line not showing up, in an attempt to not give up the deep ball?

On offense if we just plan to run the ball and it’s obvious, we leave ourselves vulnerable to getting behind if their offense clicks or this game could be real close and I don’t trust the refs and Osu not to conspire against us. I think we need to go quick, efficient running off the tackles, get that dline moving sideways and use that leverage against them, get Sampson and Lewis to where they are one v one with a lb or safety in space. Get the play action going. We HAVE to be successful running AND show the ability to hit some deep shots so their feet get stuck in the ground more and they can’t be content to load the box. Play action slants and deep balls got to hit, and no dropped or wayward hitches. And just like with every game, PLEASE don’t shoot ourselves in foot with penalties that put us behind the chains. False starts and holding penalties on early downs just can not happen.

I would say come out hair on fire on defense. Don't let them establish the run or get going with passes down field and get confident. Bring the blitz, and defensive backs man you gotta be disciplined. Don’t let yourself get blocked or let a deep ball behind you. If their receivers are catching the ball behind the line of scrimmage and not getting good opportunities past 5 yards, they will get frustrated and that’s the name of the game. On offense, no turnovers or penalties. Looking at you sampson, and offensive linemen on the edges. Don’t be afraid to say we’re gonna run the ball on you, bringing in extra blockers if you have to, but don’t make it easy by running right at the loaded box defense with just the front five and not making them earn the tackles. Designed plays for tight ends. Would love to see some busted coverage down field with bru or Thornton running free. If we can sustain drives and hit a big play here or there, we can get up like we did against uga and then we just have to stay aggressive. You don’t take your foot off the gas unless you have a 3 td lead in the 4th quarter. Sends the wrong message and Osu has the talent to swing momentum. I could see Osu winning a close one with score under 25. Could see that going our way too but less likely. I think if you hit 25+ you have a good chance.

Im calling it now, it’s a slow first quarter that lulls them into a lackadaisical mode. Nobody feels good about it. We get up on them toward the end of first quarter and into the second and lead at halftime 13-7, each with a missed field goal. Come out playing great in second half, less hurry up and more burning clock, get up 23-17 with some great play calling. We play our most complete game of the year. Its never comfortable but we are the team that wants it more and plays to their strengths the best, the final is something like 29-30 to 23-26, a one score game that didn’t feel that close the longer the game went on. Kinda like vandy but Osu is just better than them and we don’t spot them a score or two.

Thoughts?
