So as everyone probably knows we run a small farm and used to do rescue for unwanted, abused and special needs farm animals. But as the economy took a turn and inflation set in we've had to pull back. We can care for the animals brought to our rescue with immediate need but can't take any long term at this point.
Recently my local animal shelter was able to clear it's facility for the holidays. Only dogs still under eval remained, two iirc. That's a huge feat and the first time they've ever been able to do that.
I say that to tell you this. Two days ago 4 dogs came in under police surrender after a welfare check, as a neglect case, their owner was entering last stages of cancer further complicated by dementia and was no longer with facilities or otherwise able to care for them.
We have a portion of our barn with fenced in run that is currently available so I agreed to take them as a short term foster as there was no space for them when all of the fosters from the holidays return to the shelter. What's four more dogs to add to 3 we already have? The shelters often give you food and arrange for any medications needed.
All shelters are struggling, inflation hits everyone. Discretionary money has shriveled and so have donations. They need your help. If I had the money to give I would...... But I do have a little space and always open to help.
Please if you can, donate to your local shelter, if you can't donate consider opening your home to a foster, get them socialized and ready for a good home. If you can adopt please do..... Just do what you can! Anything helps!
Ok that's my soapbox........ Go Vols!
