Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Top 5 things I'm looking forward to seeing during the SB:

1) Not Like Us performed worldwide on live tv during halftime

2) Saquon running all over the Chiefs. Love to see another big run like he pulled in the conference title game

3) Hopefully some good commercials

4) The Chiefs losing and crying

5) Regardless of outcome, Philly becoming unhinged

Finally...finally watched Dazed and Confused in full last night. As a full blown Linklater fan, this was my last box to check off.

Excellent throwback movie. The vibes were top notch. Man the 70s were so much cooler than today 😄 No phones. Long hair. Cool rides. Cool fits. MM's character lived up to its memetic legendary status. Ben Affleck played the punchable face douchecanoe very well. Parker Posey, Wiley Wiggins, on and on...just a hell of a cast.

No way the voters put the Fighting Pearl clutchers at #2 after getting dominated at HOME by Florida. The final score is deceiving the result was never in doubt.

Tennessee should be #2
Florida #3
Pearl Clutchers #4
Houston stays at #5

Duke falls to #6 after losing at a unranked opponent.

Gumps will be #1
Ranking is not based on 1 game. Auburn's resume deserves the #2 ranking. UT to #3. UF to #4. Duke to #5.

No idea how old your are, but it's criminal that it took this long to watch that movie!

It is great.

I'd still say #1. Only 2 losses all year, 9-1 in the insane SEC is...insane. #1 in KenPom. #1 in NET.

Would seem like an overreaction/recency bias to drop AU at all, especially with Duke losing too.

They had a big gap to begin with, cushion room to drop a game.

Ofc this will all figure itself out with these brutal stretches and the Iron Bowl x2 to close out the reg season.

I'm more focused on us continuing this newfound offense. Keep this up and we are top-notch...#1 seed and very dangerous. Long ways to go though. Health and luck will play roles too.

We currently have the 2nd best offense of the last 5 years according to KP (85.3). Only 2022 Texas Tech finished slightly better (85.0). Lost in the SS to Duke. 42nd in offense.

Of the last decade, we're 4th (best under Barnes). The 2 others ahead of us so far:

2020 UVA (85.1) - No tourney, COVID...with 234th offense

2019 Texas Tech (84.1) - lost in national title game to UVA - 25th in offense.

We're currently 33rd in offense and rising.

Agreed, I should be locked up for such a crime. Somehow I constantly caught it on tv, but midway through and just never got around to sitting my azz down to give it the full viewing. My wife finally reminded me and man, well worth it.

Now I want to go back and rewatch Boyhood, Waking Life, the Sunset/Sunrise trilogy with Ethan Hawke (my intro to Linklater), A Scanner Darkly, and the rest.

Some people dislike how talky his films are, like a Woody Allen script, but when the dialogue is that great, it's a revelation.

Any only a bunch of teenage girls will watch it
Afaik the 18-25 demo is still supposed to be the most valuable.

Never have known exactly why, but I guess they have the free time to not only invest in their interests, but share, retweet, buy products marketed/tied to what they're viewing. They also influence older demos more than vice versa I suppose.

I'd guess a Kelce/TSwift reality show would be insanely popular (assuming she's actually a big part of it...don't think anyone actually finds him interesting, unlike his wild brother)

Seeding wise 0 movement on Auburn for all the reasons you cited. AP is recency bias on steroids so I expect Bama to steal #1 and UT to slide to 5.

My guess AP
Bama, Auburn, Duke, UF, TN

My seeding
Auburn, Alabama, Duke, TN, UF
