Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Seems to be the only way out of the corn maze at this point. NCAA gets vote of zero confidence.

From a financial standpoint taking the FB revenue out of a a one body model would be problematic.

On the other hand, separating them and taking the headcount out would really impact Title IX.

These among other reasons I BELIEVE will result in a bipartisan Congressional intervention into providing clarity that minimizes the courts discretion to change things continually. More Reps constituents are linked to the lower end D1 programs and D2 and D3. They can be supportive of A UT, but live among the ETSU, TTU, and Memphis centered voters. Trickle down NCAA money is a real thing. Within every individual program, and from revenue generating programs to the others.

Could be as simple as providing the freedom of the NCAA to maintain the BASIC amateur model or turning revenue in ANY pay for play divisions into taxable income like the NFL and NBA feeders like G League, MLB minors, and the XFL. Lots of alternative methods to minimize judicial flexibility.

Everybody knows it is currently BROKE. Solution path TBD. Somebody will want to be a hero.

I'm just going to play devils advocate for a moment. Topping playing surfaces with sand is a common practice that anyone who manages athletic fields does on a routine basis. Also something that needs to be done multiple times over the course of a season. I don't want to use that as an excuse.
Being a longtime golfer, I fully understand the need to top surfaces with sand. I also don't subscribe to the theory that our cleats were insufficient. However, having watched a TON of college football on grass surfaces, that was by far the most sand I had ever seen on any field. I don't doubt they doubled up the amount of sand they use before that game because they badly needed to avoid another embarrassing performance and in that situation you might as well pull out every trick in the book. I don’t think that cost us the game, but I think it was done intentionally.

If someone didnt anticipate the Stadium that plays a chicken noise during a TD, located adjacent to State Fair to not be up to spec.

Then the person in charge of shoe gear needs to be sacked.
They need to go back to screw in spikes, so they can change the length as needed. I loved the metal bottom cleats.

Jeez. . . in 2000 you could get a fully loaded (leather trim package and upgraded towing package) Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5.9 magnum for $26,500. A 2024 Ram 2500 Laramie is around $80k.

Imo I think Occam's Razor comes into play. "Simplest answer is usually right."

It was beginning to get late in the season. The bermuda was going dormant and the grass is no longer quickly filling the holes and gashes from games. We were their last home game after a 3 week break so they probably expected to get enough warm days for the grass to recover. They probably put that sand down after their Oct 29th game and expected the grass to recover by Nov 19th and it just didn't get where it needed to.

Ever think, like Arkansas no one wanted to be there? Fresh off heels of beating your biggest rival for first time in how many years? No one, wanted to be at the State Carnival, and it showed.
Except that there were 4 games between Bama and the USC game. I don’t think there is any doubt some variables went against us, and our defense didn’t play well. Also had the Banks drama.

For those of you who like history. . . check out this awesome map
You can scroll through different times, from -4,000 til present. You can see the different battles on the map and click on them to get details. You can see who the rulers were and other stuff too. Kinda thought maybe @peaygolf or @SoilVol would like it.

February 25, 1964

February 25th marks the anniversary of one of the most iconic moments in sports history - the night when 22-year-old Muhammad Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, defeated the seemingly unbeatable Sonny Liston to become heavyweight champion of the world. Their 1964 title fight at the Miami Beach Convention Center was far more than a boxing match - it was a clash of personalities, a battle of good versus evil in the eyes of many, and a politically charged spectacle during the height of the Civil Rights Movement.

For Liston, the 34-year-old champion, it was supposed to be a quick and easy win. He was a 7-1 favorite, with many expecting Ali to be knocked out within the first few rounds. But Ali had other plans. Utilizing his superior speed and mobility, he was able to evade Liston's powerful punches and wear down the champion over the course of the fight. By the end of the sixth round, Liston refused to come out of his corner, making Ali the new heavyweight ruler in one of sports' greatest upsets.
