Recruiting Football Talk VIII

This is how the game is set up. Gibson is acting selfishly, but there isnt anything he's doing against the rules. And it is a slippery slope, yet here again. It's an open porthole, and there no contracts. Gibson is first but wont be last.

Coaches and AD's can hold schools and players at bey while they negotiate. But players cannot? Again, i'm not arguing the legitimacy of a Spring porthole. I think its dumb. But feelings matter not. Here we are.

'Let 'em walk.' You're talking about a starting CB. Our other starter is out, and we dont know when he'll be back, if at all.

Now, bigger picture. Someone needs to stand up and close the spring porthole.
I agree with your statement. There is nothing illegal but morally Is where I base my statement. This should have never hit the media. I’m sure this been pulled by players I love to watch. But they handled it correctly. We should never know what things like this. For that is why I say Let’em walk.
Rickey’s team and he handled this poorly and shouldn’t do business with them. In my own business, I have handled situations very similar. Lost money on moral standings.
But this this all personal feelings I’m sure they will keep him because of where the team is at corner. I ,however, will not root for him.

I'll root for him, bc he's a Vol. And personal feelings don't matter.

I'll go back to my same old gripe. Staff needs to widen its net at OL, DB, and WR. Three key areas we struggle to get big dogs in recruiting. Areas Georgia and Bubba, even toothless Florida stack talent.

DB and WR are two areas where stars do matter. Whatever the reason, coaching, Sam's Club pricing, football needs less air. Make it happen.

We saw difference YoY when we fired our DB's and brought in a player. We see what happens when this offense has talent to stretch the field.

We have to get better on the trail. There is little excuse for not having a top 7-8 class every year. We have literally everything.

I still dont think we have properly capitalized on having a top flight QB, Orange Bowl win, Draft picks, and a playoff appearance.

Boo Carter set a really bad precedent for the team. He threatened to leave as a leverage play for more $, and got it. Now RGIII is doing the same thing. If he gets his way, im worried more players will start to do that to get more $
it's only gonna happen more and more.........

Wow. I looked up Mickey Thompson mudders and this is what popped up. . . I didnt know this.
Mickey Thompson and his wife Trudy were murdered in their Bradbury, California home in the early morning of March 16, 1988. The crime was carried out by two hooded gunmen who fled on bicycles. The gunmen were never identified.
How the murders occurred

  • The gunmen waited for the couple to leave for the day
    • Thompson opened the garage door for his wife to leave
    • The gunmen shot and wounded Thompson, then dragged him into the driveway
    • One gunman killed Trudy as she backed out of the garage
    • The other gunman shot Thompson in the head
Legal proceedings
    • Mickey Thompson's former business partner, Michael Goodwin, was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder in 2006
    • Goodwin maintained his innocence and sought a new trial
    • Goodwin was sentenced to life in prison

Edit* I searched mickey thkmpson mudders on accident. If you spell it right, the tires come up. . .

It’s our own fault. Recruit better and deeper and they won’t have the leverage to play it that way.

You're correct in both aspects. Gibson is being greedy but isn't breaking any rules. The days of loyalty to a University by players will be very few these days and times. NIL has opened a can of worms that can't be controlled. Curious why the ones who wanted the players to be financially compensated are the ones complaining about loyalty.?

Boo was completely different. Time and place has everything to do with this instance. Boo waited till end of year and wanted to play both sides of ball.

Not gonna knock Gibson for trying to get paid. As a fan it sucks though. No fun to watch happen.

Sometimes, I think it’s shortsighted too. More money now isn’t necessarily the best move. May not end up in as good a situation with people you like and appreciate you. Just look at Aidoo. You know that guy wishes he was still in orange at this point.
