Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Yup. I am one, though not as radical about my fandom as I was in my younger days.

My dad played semi-pro in the coal mining camp league in east TN after WW II before I was born. He was a Reds fan all of his life which passed to me. The orientation of baseball fans around here was more toward Cincy, the Braves were still in Milwaukee. Kids were influenced by it as many had family that had moved that way with the migration on the Hillbilly Highway for jobs after the war and when the mines started shutting down. You could catch a train around here and ride to downtown Cincy's station, which was a short distance from Crosley Field. Especially when you had family nearby to stay with while there.

I did it as a young kid. Still remember it all - the sights, the smells, the sounds. Great memories.

I used to sit in the car and listen to the Reds game with my uncle. Couldn't get it on the radio in the house. That was 70 years ago.

Remember years ago when Heupel first hired in and he pulled the offer from some slow receiver that committed to Pruitt? Pretty standard stuff but the kid, his hs coach, and the media tried to crucify Heupel for it.

Anyone remember any details of that - if the kid ever panned out and if we ever went on to sign anyone else from his school? His coach said we’d never be welcome back there again

Not completely sure I recall the name. But I think it was roc Taylor? 🤷

Everyone needs to keep an eye out for the weather on Friday and especially Saturday. Looking pretty bad and this forecast is expected to be upgraded to expand the moderate risk area and include a high risk zone. There's potential for supercells, large hail, and strong long track tornadoes. Be aware and stay safe.

Yup. Major coverup. How quickly folks can conveniently forget the investigative reports and evidence. They crucify the players in other sports who did it and totally ignore Tiger, who was already great before he started using.

The tour went all in to sell the narrative for another GOAT to drive interest in the game globally. It worked for a time. Now it is floundering over it and LIV with no icon golfer to serve its imaging needs. Which was the problem, they thought they needed imaging when they already had one of the best stories and histories in sports. The game speaks for itself if it is kept pure from the crap that can cause it problems. The truth is there have been a number of GOATs subject to era in time. That's the narrative to sell. The history and tradition are good things, not bad. Sure, adapt to changes in society, but don't throw the beautiful baby out with the bathwater.

For example, very few in the game have ever had a better season than Scottie last year. Add in Xander with two majors. Sell that and all of the great young talent in the game. Mend fences with LIV and be about the game of golf.

It’s kinda wild how much willful ignorance there seems to be with Tiger.
We’ve convicted in the Court of Truth so many others, on much weaker evidence.

He was literally running in the same circles with the same people.
At the height of the HGH boom.
And just happened to get swollen and proceed to go supernova.
And then had his body break down.

And yet so many insist on…

Tiger was always pretty thin until he started bulking up around 2008. By then, he had already won 13 majors. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he used HGH starting around the 2007-2008 time period because he physically changed. However, he was already one of the longest hitters on tour because of the club speed he could generate due more to flexibility and athleticism more so than strength. He was just a skinny kid when he won his first few majors. Him trying to bulk up probably derailed his career more than anything.

He was demonstrably bigger much earlier than 2008. Something changed after his first run of #1. He came back bigger.

I’d say Tiger’s first run of Majors is probably clean.
Just like Bonds & Rocket, he was an amazing talent that was already destined to be one of the greats.

Like Bonds & Rocket, Tiger appeared to be chasing something. Something bigger, something more.

What was Tiger chasing 🤔

I have to disagree, even though I love the Vols star logo. The Tri-Star can never be overused. UT is the flagship university of the state and the new logo represents that well.

And this is coming from a guy who has both logos on different vehicles.

I’m a fan of anything that incorporates the Tri-star. I have an orange UT hat with the Tri-star logo. It’s my favorite sub logo associated with UT. I have a lot of state pride.

It’s not that big of a deal to me. He was not nearly as recognizable through his body as the baseball guys. I just looked at a side by side from 2005 and 2019 and saw very little difference. It’s just my opinion. He was known as a work out maniac and put in the work, even cardio workouts.

He had the Tigerslam in 2001 just like I can acknowledge that Barry Bonds was awesome before he got big. I have no doubt Tiger tried to use things to help him medically. Was that steroids? No idea.

I'm cetainly not putting my fingers in my ears. And I hate the 'court of public opinion'. You clearly followed this much closer than I. For me, I'm just reluctant to say he absolutely used PEDs because I don't see the definitive proof. Too often, that 'court of public opinion' likes to play Judge and Executioner kind of like a mob mentality ready to tar and feather. And, this has sullied many a reputation.

Our own Peyton Manning had to briefly deal with a steroid accusation.
