The "birth" of March Madness

Saint Joseph's win over DePaul is grouped together with two other great moments that happened within minutes of each other. First, U.S. Reed made a halfcourt shot to lift Arkansas over defending national champion Louisville. Then, just minutes later, Rolando Blackman hit a jumper at the buzzer to give Kansas State a win over top-seeded Oregon State. And right after that, John Smith converted the layup to give the Hawks the upset of DePaul. NBC's coverage allowed viewers to see all three finishes and people recognize that day, March 14, 1981, as the birth of March Madness

3 weeks before I was born. Lots of greatness originating from that time, IMO. 😂

Tough night tonight here in Arkansas. Multiple tornadoes touching down all around us. We are prepped to head to storm shelter, if they come our way. Lots of damage all around - with it being this late not sure of possible loss of life. Cave City, AR has been hit hard.

Prayers for y’all and any in west TN tonight. Tomorrow, it’s a red alert for all of us.

Stay weather aware. Great Twitter follow by the way with recommendations for other areas:

He was demonstrably bigger much earlier than 2008. Something changed after his first run of #1. He came back bigger.

I’d say Tiger’s first run of Majors is probably clean.
Just like Bonds & Rocket, he was an amazing talent that was already destined to be one of the greats.

Like Bonds & Rocket, Tiger appeared to be chasing something. Something bigger, something more.

What was Tiger chasing 🤔

Tornado sirens going off now. About to head to our shelter. Storm headed to us has not produced a tornado so far. Pray for us
