The funny thing about that is, wasn't he our top recruiter this cycle?

If so, then, he did a fine job of masking his distrust.
It’s Chris Simms Syndrome. You want to be somewhere else but you’re not confident in that justification...so you conjure an issue.

I think the DJ comment was due to lack of job security. We moved him to RB coach to upgrade with Tee. It’s also known we tried to hire Graham last year. Sounds like he was next man on the chopping block to me.
Good enough. If he says he feels valued more at FSU with Norvell, lot less issue.

I don't know, maybe I just like seeing guys develop but we're 13-9 and Kentucky comes calling...didn't expect a win. We played a hell of a good game though, Bowden hits that 3 with about 2:30 left and it's a 2 point game and the crowd energy might be enough to carry us to an upset. He missed and UK scores an and 1 on a phantom foul on Fulkerson to go from a 5 point lead to an 8 point lead. That was the game basically.

Just don't have the depth with losing Turner & James on top of the 4 that left from last year. But I'm a huge fan of watching how well these guys are taking coaching. Pons and Fulkerson are without a doubt the next Bone/Admiral in how well they've developed their games. Santiago as well, we as a team had less than 10 TOs this game. He made some big shots against a backcourt CBS couldn't brag about enough.

David Johnson talking about being back with Norvell and finding it being hard to recruit at UT because he didn't "trust" where he was recruiting to.

F that guy.
David Johnson video saying he never was a fit here and didn’t trust what was going on.

VolQuest - Vols RB coach David Johnson moves on to FSU despite Tennessee counter offer

Guess he needs to make up his mind. Either it was a great experience and a great place or he didn't fit n it was rotten...... 🤷🏻‍♂️

Listening to the VQ podcast, an interesting review of recruitment stories brought up Austin Price’s account of Tyler Baron’s. Buggy Guac Sauce and others have derided Nieds getting credit for landing that one because “he was always going to end up here.” Most of us knew better but if any doubt remains about Baron not being a sure thing, then Austin saying that he was in church at his wife’s grandmother’s funeral and getting the call from Baron AFTER THE KENTUCKY GAME and saying that they were out “because they are ridiculous with the negative recruiting.” That should shelve it. After losing that game, Stoops and his boys doubled down on bs because they couldn’t go with results on the field. That prize required wire to wire effort from Nieds. Also we don’t win many head to heads with Auburn, but Hubbs admitted that he was shocked when Omari Thomas notified him that he was in. Auburn wanted him bad but we beat them out. Not the last time.

I get it and I'm just wound up from the game. That said yeah I shouldn't have counted the big guy. The SEC is terrible this year and hopefully we have an ok finish. I guess I just don't get paying a guy north of 5mil to hopefully make the NIT in his his 5th year.
It was either pay him, get the best class in school history or start over with another coach that we'd have to Google to learn about them. TN was and will never hire a big name basketball coach. We didn't do it with the lady Vols, we didn't do it with football, we sure as heck weren't doing it with men's basketball.

Look, I get it. I don't like where we are any more than you. But it is what it is. You can wallow in it and bitch and moan and be miserable all season or you can look at this season as a warm up for next season.

could be right, I took it that he is setting up for future recruits to FSU, and being all in. It’s a business and no longer owes UT anything, even civility.

One thing I like about Coach Rick Barnes is when he retires I feel like he'll have quite a few guys on staff (or within his coaching tree, Rob Lanier for example) that can be the next guy. Never felt that with any other former basketball coach.

That crap from Stoops got him a trip to Charlotte in December

Ubben did an exit interview with YAC where he was nothing but complimentary of UT and Pruitt. Whatever. Part of the coaching schtick.
Weirdly timed. Leak that before NSD and it doesn’t sound so sour grapesy. Would still come across as petty...because it is.

Which is all it has ever been. Even had Turner stayed healthy they would have been bubble quality. Just watch the guys develop and realize next season is going to start what should be a great run for at least 3 years.

Assuming Turner was 100% healthy we wouldn't be a bubble team, but yeah I don't think this team was going to be much better than 25 games in a "perfect world" situation, which this season has obviously turned out to not be with Uros not getting eligible early, losing Turner to injury and James being hurt.

What this season WILL be though is a great foundation, every guy on this squad is likely in it for more than a single season. Adding 3 elite prospects (4 with Bailey being eligible) and only losing Turner & Bowden (Turner already being out too). But Uros, Olivier, Gaines, Jalen, and even Drew are benefiting big time from playing. Not to mention how much better Santiago is going to be for all the minutes he's logging.
