No. Programs make great coaches for the most part. If you drop Saban at Vanderbilt is his career the same?

it's monday morning qb'ing at it's finest..........but that would have been one way to avoid the disaster that was that last play.

or kick fg's insted of going for it on 4th down there? then the late game FG doesn't matter.

don't get it twisted, i'm not saying i blame the coaches per se. i am saying the way we lost that game had a very CBJ flavor to it, a la OU and FL 2015......and if those types of things become the norm, like they did with CBJ, then that's bad, and that IS on the coaches....it becomes who they are, just like it did with CBJ.

BYU didn’t have timeouts. Why call one for them? At some point they need to trust their players. That one didn’t work out but if a couple more seconds ticked off game won...so I understand the mentality. My bigger quarrel was the playcalling on offense before that.

Bad example, recruiting limitations exist at Vanderbilt, although Franklin was good for 9 a year I bet Saban is as well...probably doesn't win the National titles though.

My one thought on Leach is we all love hearing him talk at other schools but if he was at Tennessee we would get tired of him real quick. He would say something quirky and people would get mad at him. Leach has a strong personality and it would rub a lot of our fanbase the wrong way and they would make a lot of noise and cry about it.

If he is winning no one will care.

My 14 year old had on shorts and a long sleeved sweatshirt yesterday.



It was 97 degrees, and the child had on a sweatshirt. I followed her around with a fire extinguisher in case she spontaneously combusted.

Stepdaughter says she’s freezing and tried to program the thermostat to stay at 75. Programmed it back and repeated edict that she’ll never win that war...if she’s truly freezing, go outside and dig some holes or at least a few jumping jacks. It’s near 100 out there! You can always bundle up to get warm...you can’t get cool when it’s stifling inside.

I think you're exaggerating quite a bit. If he were that elite at X/O, the Raiders job would've gone better for him. He's an offe sobe x/o guru. That doesn't make him someone who "can flat out coach."

I'd argue Saban isn't the gold standard of greatness at x/o, and that most of the most elite coaches aren't great because they are elite at x/o.

I agree, he wasn't as bad as his record at Oakland, but being a really good OC doesn't mean he can flat out coach as a head coach.

MUCH more top heavy than it was a decade ago. Top 3 are elite, big drop-off after that.

You could argue that Ron Zook laid the foundation for the epic run of Urban Meyer. He kept that program in a spot where an elite coach could immediately start winning and recruited pretty well, if I remember correctly. I would think most UF fans look back favorably on him in hindsight.

As opposed to Kiffin who demolished our foundation and arguably began our worst decade in history.

I said on VN the night he left that he had just nuked us back into the stone age of the 70s...I never believed that we would still be there 10 years later though...but I knew it was really bad.

Either way. I was just listing a couple examples. I was as dumbfounded as the next guy that it was warrior and Taylor that screwed up. Wouldn't have thought we needed a to there either for those two.

No disagreement on that point. I think for a HC he’s a very good OC...nothing more.

But...SEC. Clemson and tOSU have been the only programs to block a SEC sweep during the playoff era...and they practically had no in-conference competition in those seasons.

Doeren turned us down because the fanbase was still in full on psycho mode after Schiano stuff. Brohm also turned us down and he isn't exactly setting the world on fire at Purdue.

Doeren would have been a freakin disaster...no way he recruits close to good enough here. He was a horrible candidate.

You guys that know more about football than I do... What's wrong with our DL? It isn't like the guys playing that position aren't big enough, their huge. So what is the problem? Are they just not talented enough? Are they not explosive enough, lacking quick twitch? Are they not strong enough? Are they using poor technique, not getting proper leverage? What's the deal there?

I think they all lack explosion.
