Kudos to her. I’ve always wanted to be able to sew, tried many times, it’s a defeat I have to admit.

It's not hard but you probably need someone to show you the ropes. Patterns and diagrams aren't intuitive but once someone shows you how to do this or that it's easy to do - it's the figuring it out part that can be tough. These days though everything can be found on youtube so it's not nearly as difficult if you don't have someone close to you that can show you how to do a specific thing.
