it's amazing that he created the world first. the entire backstory was written, languages etc. then he wrote the story. i always envision a musical analogy of bonham and JPJ sitting in a dark room stumbling onto Over the Hills and Far Away. Then, JP and Plant come in later on and just shred it.
Gratuitous Zep plug.
Books > movies.
PS, the actor that played Thorin Oakenshield embodied, at least in my mind, what Tolkein envisioned. Seems like dwarves were a punch line in LOTR movies. They played an important part in history of ME. You see that in Hobbit Movies.
Hobbit didnt need to be a trilogy.
I think the issue here is that LotR should be an actual series. The Hobbit would be a 1 season 10-episode series while LotR would be a full series due to how much depth those books have. But, I understand that movies and books are very different I'm terms of engagement and need to have action in tv. Thorin's actor was really good. If you read about the dwarves they played a huge part in the whole story. If I remember correctly they held off the whole northern campaign from Sauron. The elves get a lot of love, and it's fair. But the dwarves are awesome
