10042020 Big Orange Hotline Highlights
The big item from the show tonight was the team (Bob, Jeff, & Pat) reflecting on our going into the game last year against Georgia and not thinking there was any way for us to come out ahead at that point in our rebuild – but this year they all said they see a path for us to win. (I’m beginning to see others elsewhere in the world of college football suggesting the same thing).
Pat said he thought if we could stop Georgia’s running game he didn’t think Bennett could beat us with his arm. Jeff wanted us to get a lot of pressure on Bennett. Pat said we needed to improve our play in the back end of our defense, something he had anticipated as a strength of our defense this year.
They had Chip Towers on from the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Georgia beat writer for 30 years, and he said Georgia wasn’t completely set with their offensive line. They’ve used 2 different young guys at RT so far this year. He said if Bennett struggles he would expect JT Daniels to make an appearance.
They recapped Pruitt’s presser from earlier today which I thought was the perfect tone from CJP heading into this weekend. Pruitt seemed very poised, very focused, and I think in total command. He basically said we need to improve everywhere but it was a positive comment not a negative and he kept coming back to that theme over and over and over again. He said they worked on Georgia Sunday night and will work more on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. He didn’t leave out anyone or any position group in his call for improvement. The thing about it from my perspective was he was confident. Last week he said we would get our 3rd down issue on offense fixed. On 3rd & 4th downs against SC we went 1-12; on 3rd & 4th downs against MO we went 10-17. I like the way things are headed. I have a lot of experience with leadership and at this point I can't compliment him enough, jmo.
Couple of tables of info just to get them off my desk:
First the on paper comparison of the guys who have been starting on our and Georgia’s offensive lines so far this year.
And Guarantano’s passer rating depending on the receiver he is targeting:
