If I ever leave here, I will probably go back to T-Bay, I really miss it, and since my daughter and her husband are back there to stay.

I am a Tennessean no matter where I go, and it will always be home sweet home to me, but truthfully I feel at home more in T-Bay than anywhere else I have ever lived...I love it there.

Back in the spring of 1994, I was working the drive through at the (now closed) Hardee’s on Alcoa Highway. Heath Shuler pulls up to the window in a brand new Ford Explorer. I specifically remember that because I used to love those ‘90s Explorers. Now they look like women SUV grocery getters. But anyways.

Back then I was a die hard Cowboys fan. As I’m handing him his food, I ask where he thinks he’s gonna go and he said he knew he was going to the Redskins. To which I replied I hated to hear that because as a Cowboys fan, that meant I was gonna have to root for him being a bust. I was joking - but he didn’t even crack a smile. 😕

Clearly what I said weighed heavily on him as he did in fact bust out. Fortunately he’s gone on to have a lot of success in life though.

My work day usually starts at 5:30. I started at 3:45 this morning just to make sure I’d make home in time to prepare my wings and be in front of the tv for kickoff. I feel it today, ladies and gents. Those mangy curs don’t know what’s headed their way! B75E5F4D-EB40-4683-B0CD-9DFDC9932101.gif

I had reserve duty that day and we had an Under Secretary of the Navy (the equivalent of a 3 star admiral) and his staff visiting our unit that weekend. Our unit's mission and organizational structure had just been changed and he had become our boss so he was visiting to meet everyone. We had an outdoor reception at our lakehouse for the Secretary and our skipper (a Bama fan) got mad because everyone kept sneaking up to the house to check on the game. As host I didn't get to see a single minute of the game. That one hurt but not as bad as having to give away my tix to the Miracle in South Bend because I had to spend a weekend at one of those "inside the mountain" emergency command centers.
