Chaney has GOT to go
He either has to go or get more creative, but if you fire him, I'm kind of in agreement that you don't hire a high profile replacement. Best case scenario you promote from within, maybe take a chance with Osovet.

He’s mediocre. We need someone creative.
We have had wide open receivers all over the field all year when we are able to run the full playbook. Chaney has been handicapped by JG.

That was apparent when all the sudden HB found tightends wide open...... and gave them their only major receiving yards all year.

I’m not making excuses for Pruitt. But the amount of contact tracing we’ve had to do because of Knoxville's law on it has been ridiculous. Kids were likely quarantined who weren’t even sick and their much needed development was hurt in the process I mean Bailey’s first time to touch a ball was 3 days before our first game.....

That’s insane. Period. I think you have to give JP Atleast next year. If he doesn’t show anything then obviously you get rid of him.

But, this year has been a lot worse for us due to COVID than people want to admit.
Other teams have faced COVID and not had near the struggles, including a first year, first time head coach at Arkansas. Makes it really hard to believe Pruitt deserves a pass. Especially given his attitude.

So you want him to play but you don’t want him to start? Lol wth why would you want JG to have time to ruin what could possibly be a way better game with Bailey starting?

Is this opposite world?
Because it isn’t going to be a better game. We’re going to get hammered, I just want the kid to have a legitimate shot at winning his first game when he gets the reins.

I think I heard Wayne and Calbert both missed 28 days of practice and never once had the virus.

That’s honestly kind of insane if you think about it.

AV may be doing crowd control re: PF/jp and losing a highly coveted DB. Seems curious he decides to post after the decommit news.
100. Getting crushed in recruiting right now and recruits read these boards. Need some show of optimism or belief that Pruitt isn’t going to get fired.

Kid has started games since he was a freshman in Big A football in Georgia. Starting a game in the SEC worries him not. That’s a fan thing.

My thoughts:
It doesn't surprise me that Pruitt is gonna get another year. I think fewer coaches will get canned than ever this year. I know Muschamp got fired, but Muschamp's performance simply continued his underachieving from years past. You can sell what we've done this year as an aberration, especially since we had the winning streak to end last year. This year will always have an asterisk in front of it. You can blame it on so many having to quarantine, or Bailey not being able to practice, or us having to reschedule games, or us not having spring practice. I'm not saying those are excuses, but I am saying that those things will be enough to cast doubt that maybe, all things being normal (which, will they be next year? Who even knows?), we may have had a different outcome on this year.

I think that I want to give the benefit of the doubt to Pruitt. I will never understand his commitment to JG, nor will anyone else on here. I am completely disappointed by the offensive production, and offense as a whole this year. Our secondary has been crap, and I have a feeling Kyle Trask will have a field day with us.

But I want to hope he gets it right. We need him to get it right. As much as some of you on here seem to enjoy coaching searches and the endless speculation, I'm kind of tired of them. I'm tired of the Grumors and the baseless insiders who suddenly come out of the woodwork. I'm tired of seeing UT's name drug through the mud because so many coaches turn us down, and it just highlights how far we have fallen.

I want Jeremy to be successful. And until he is officially let go, I will keep that stance, because that is just the helpful thing right now.

UT is not devoid of talent. I hope that this recruiting class sticks, and many of them sign in December. We have some serious defensive players that will be coming in, and will contribute early. And we have some good playmakers on offense that will be much needed.

I really want to hope that given an actual normal year (which again, may or may not happen), we can get this thing back on the right track.

But even if the year isn't "normal," I want to see us have an actual offensive identity aside from seeing how many 3 and outs we can get a game. I think that Bailey will give us a preview of that, and I think he and Salter will duke it out in the spring, and we will once again have a solid passing game. Jalin Hyatt is reminding me of Justin Hunter in his freshman year, and Malachi Wideman will be special in time as well.

Anyways, I know many want Pruitt fired. But I am willing to give him one more year to get it right, and put it all together. If he doesn't, then I think you can definitely say it's time to look again.

And I won’t say how or why....but rest assured JP will be our coach next year....and PF has tied himself to the success or failure of this hire. Ill leave it at that.

Happy thanksgiving.
I’m sad 😢 again.
Was going to have extra slice of pie.
Will instead go into a one year self induced coma with medical instructions to only wake me when Vols have new head football coach.

Yes but aside from Arkansas all those other teams were honestly in better situations. Even Arkansas had more prepared personnel. I mean we had nothing at ILB besides HT we have a kid who was basically injured until Fall practice and another who wasn’t even on the team until fall practice......

This team again has had a lot more to deal with than other teams. So yes I do think it’s a valid excuse.

Ole Miss’s insiders were saying this same **** the day after last year’s Egg Bowl... “get over it” “it’s not happening, Matt Luke will be the coach next year” “we don’t have the money” a lot of sayings along the lines of that. Then about a day later they fired Luke.

I know how we feel about Ole Miss’s mods/insiders, but still.

How are we getting “crushed” in recruiting? We have the #11 Nationally Ranked class at the moment.....

All we did was lose a 3* recruit..... we have one of the best Dual Threat QBs committed......

We have 1- 5 star committed and 10 - 4 stars committed. Yet we are being “crushed?” Wth?

Compared to TN, KY has been a total police state when it comes to COVID measures, yet they still found a way to come into Neyland and kick our @$$.

Everyone in the world has had to to deal with COVID. It absolutely does not excuse the product that’s been put out on the field this year.

Covid wasn’t an issue at that time.

One major reason we lost that game was because of JG when you give Kentucky a short field all game you are going to lose. Lol

Correct, but COVID’s main effect on the university and the program is financial. And that was one of Ole Miss’s big problems with firing Matt Luke, like their insiders said, but it didn’t stop them from pulling the trigger.

FWIW I don’t think we’ll actually fire Pruitt before 2021 but I think Fulmer could possibly change his mind.

I don’t think it’ll happen. It especially won’t happen if Bailey plays up to his 5 star potential.

QB has been the only thing holding this team back.

We have issues at other positions but a competent QB solves a ton of issues.

I agree, but if he doesn’t... what happens?

And if he does, why did it take so long to start him? Pruitt isn’t an idiot, but he’s been given ample time now to give this guy the snaps he needs to succeed. COVID was obviously a factor but he should have been ready for Arkansas 100%.

Again like I said Bailey touched a football 3 days before our first game. Maybe he honestly just needed time to develop more and get reps.

Without any true practice reports we would never know. Maybe Pruitt thought Shrout and Maurer were better just from having more experience with the playbook and when those two fell through, he was stuck with JG at that time because HB just wasn’t ready.....

Now he will of had what 3 weeks before the Florida game? That’s plenty of time to get him ready and it makes sense starting him.

If HB starts, I believe the Vols will finish 2-1(if the last 3 games even get played). I don't think we'll beat florida but, we'll be more competitive with Bailey running the offense. If JG continues to start, I think we lose out. I have no faith in Guarantano, but Bailey gives me hope. I think we'll see a totally different team next Saturday, if HB starts.
