Very sensible in theory, but you won't get a decent coach to sign anything like that. Agents now strike mitigation clauses and demand sweeteners before presenting contracts to clients. Buyouts are favorable to coaches, and performance-based clauses are generally escalators that penalize schools and benefit coaches.
A school wanting to hire an in-demand coach goes into negotiations handcuffed. The more in demand a coach is-- or the more adeptly he can use the media to convince a school he is-- the more leverage the agent has to broker deals that would have been outrageous a few years ago. Even assistants are demanding-- and getting-- incredibly favorable terms. With increased mobility and TV money, it's only going to get worse.
