Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

It's quiet. Tennessee had COVID testing starting around noon. Pruitt and staff were on campus this morning. Pruitt is scheduled to go to Alabama for his grandfather's funeral. Tennessee is in meetings this afternoon regarding bowl destination.

Powers that be (chancellor, president Boyd others) are obviously talking about the on going investigation.

That's kind of where I am.

Ok this is what I’m hearing...
I don’t expect a decision publicly until after Christmas. I do believe he is done. Tennessee will try and fire him with cause but could reach a settlement if Pruitt is willing to move on. Tennessee will probably self impose a reduction on scholarships and a bowl ban. Pruitt has ticked off some university folks as well. Plowman and Manning have had a lot of dialogue along with others. Haslam has had contact with Manning and Plowman the last month but it really picked up the last 10 days and the last 48 hours. This is deeper than on field coaching. There are a lot of upset people. I have heard Fulmer is no longer fighting this whatsoever. I don’t have any clue what his fate is at this time. The focus is Pruitt right now. A lot of details to work through before Pruitt is let go. It could happen tomorrow or it could happen after Christmas. If it happens sooner then it’s because he wanted it to. Things can change in a hurry. I don’t know how soon Pruitt will return from Alabama. I know people will have a million questions but this is all I know and this is basically the opinion of someone I trust. A lot of moving parts here. It’s important you all understand that. Candidates haven’t really even been discussed in detail at this point.
I think Fulmer was only fighting this to the extent of maintaining power - I don't think it was as much he wanted to keep Pruitt as he didn't want to Haslams to be back in control but he lost that battle - their big $$$ is needed. I'm disappointed that there hasn't been an announcement that Pruitt is gone but hoping it's because of funeral arrangements - or that they want to try to handle as much as they can behind the scenes before anything official - to include investigation/mitigation & maybe even coach search (that is, after all, what Jimmy & Currie had done before until Schiano Sunday. I'm gonna try to focus on getting some work done in preparation for Christmas - all this speculation is fun but I'm wasting too much time! Merry Christmas you filthy animals!

I mean record is a talking point, but you also have to look at quality opponents. They were undefeated last year and went on to face a 7-5 Washington team in the las vegas and lost 38-7. Couple years prior in the cactus bowl they were a 10 win team and got beat 31-12 by a 6-6 Baylor team.

I want someone who has had success on the big stage, a power 5 conference. I dont want another up and comer who's had great success at a smaller level.

People want Chadwell because of 1 really good season. We can't just keep screwing this up. We could have had some good coaches in the past, but we want bargain bin. We seemed to have wanted to put some money up last search, but because currie royal screwed up that search we ended up with a coordinator who's had elite talent his whole career.

Unless it’s Freeze, you won’t get this. It’s not the way coaching hires are going these days. UF finally hit on Mullen (because of prior ties) after striking out on Zook, Muschamp, and McElwain. People believe that job is better than ours.

We are only getting a coach with prior P5 experience with unusual circumstances- either fired like Barnes or someone who messed up like Freeze. Everyone has money now.
