It would be the indicator that they keep him on as either interim HC for a year or so, or he is permanently hired as HC. Both bad news

If they let him hire assistants, that would be a very strong indication their plan is to make him the permanent HC. Why would you let an "acting head coach" or an interim head coach make staff hires, especially multi-year staff hires?

I am of the belief that he is going to be our new head coach. I see this playing out like Ole Miss did with Matt Luke. They had bowl bans, loss of scholarships, etc... They promoted a former player to head coach and let him give it the ole' college try. Hopefully, he will be able to hire a good offensive coordinator. I hope I am wrong, but this is just my opinion.

People need to stop with they dont trust Lane, Freeze or other coaches. Nobody has a clue in what these coaches will or wont do. You can insert any coaches name and say this. If you thought Pruitt would end up in the mess that he is in by the time he got fired then you are a liar. No matter what coach is hired at any school is a crap shot. Nobody knows if Freeze will ever do something again,some people learn from their mistakes, especially when they know that this is their last shot. I personally think Kiffin wants to right his wrong and I think he would stay until he was fired. People do grow up and mature. Nobody is expecting Tenn to hire a pastor, most of us already has one.
