This is my first time posting for a while. I've been watching and listening as this whole mess has played out. While I agree that Plowman and Boyd did what they needed to do, I'm concerned about the current timeline for the hires, and it's impact on the program. We're bleeding players left and right. I think that if they were real VFL, they would stay and be part of the solution and not the problem. But I also think they are taking these actions to protect themselves. Our ship is definitely taking on water.
Why was Fulmer given any buyout money. It was his lack of management, oversight, and organizational control that lead us to this disaster. I totally disagree with Plowman on this action. Just shows the character of Fulmer to even ask or accept buyout money. The classless jerk milked us for over $6 million when he was originally fired. Good grief.
As soon as Plowman and Boyd knew that the program had problems, they should have started a back channel search for an AD and putting out feelers for candidate coaches. You can always do it through 3rd parties. Plowman should have reached out to the top, most respected ADs for their recommendations of the best possible AD candidates. The AD hire should have been completed hours following the press conference. The incoming AD hire could already have compiled a list of potential coaches for interviews using their own networks. Texas turned their situation around within days. Auburn's not so much so.
I'm a VFL. Always have been, always will be. While I'm deeply concerned, I still support my Vols. We may be facing some difficult times ahead. If we stick together, we can get our alma mater through this.
My wish for a coach is a combination of good recruiter and developer of players. We see coaches all over the country who don't get the level of talent we have in the program, yet they train and develop their players. It's not unusual for many programs to take 1* players and develop them into viable NFL players. Our next coach needs to know how to teach the game to our players first and foremost. I know I'm sounding idealist, but it's time to find that right coach.
