If we get Campbell we will have gotten a generational coach who in 5 years pulled a school from 12 bowls in 12 decades to a dominant Big 12 school. Unfortunately I just don't see how they pull him out of Iowa making $3.7M unless we give him $6M.

Agree with all of that. It would be an absolutely miraculous pull.

I do think he could always go back somewhere else if it didn’t work out though, and UT is an elite opportunity with, yes, pressure, but also less pressure than inheriting a program that’s on top of the world.

If we have the cash, just give him a monster signing bonus — i.e. you will have $10M (state tax free, by the way) in your checking account tomorrow, and we’ll give you a modest raise also.

Guys I think we are under estimating the Johnny Majors effect on Campbell. He still was around Iowa State with Campbell there before his health went down. Can you imagine the stories ole King Johnny told him on how great The University Of Tennessee is ? I think it’s some legit smoke around him

I hope we never hear if that happens. That's why I don't get the logic that we should only be happy about a perceived lower tier hire if we know that others turned us down. How did a series of public rejections help us the last 3 times? Hopefully we can avoid that no matter who we hire. From a national and recruiting perspective that would be a huge boost for an incoming coach instead of what the last 3 had to overcome.

So was your retort. Look at their records. Each had a flash year at a lower level school and PJ had a flash in the Big 10. Jones’ 2 9 win seasons in SEC are more impressive than PJ’s year in Little 10. Plus the slogans. He simply isn’t big time. Definitely don’t pay him 7M...worth 3.5 and no buyout at best

Also I actually like him as a person just not a big time hire for us. This is the time to go really BIG.

I was watching a YouTube video on Campbell last night. He does some unique things on defense. One of the videos was saying his defense has been nicknamed the air raid killer. But he basically plays 3 safties so there is always a safety over the top. They called it a 3 3 3 defense.

I think it's safe to say he hasn't turned down a job that's going to offer more than we are. That may be a stretch, but I think it's a pretty safe bet. Texas, maybe. But they are dealing with a buyout.

Also, he might have turned down the Jets. But I highly doubt he turned down all those NFL interviews, or refused all the offers. When you interview and you don't get the job, you say you were not interested. No college coach with a current team has ever admitted they wanted a job but didn't get it.
